Lenny B
Not gig-spam as I'm not playing, but; Wednesday eve at the Jazz Cafe, Brotherly are playing, featuring the very excellent Robin Mullarkey on bass (Zero 7, Ty, many more). Highly recommended - see www.myspace.com/brotherly And back to the forum... Lenny B
Shame - because they're a 9-piece band, gigs can be a bit few and far between. If you can't make it, check the album out - there's some great music and musicianship. gitfidler
'Scuse the slight OT, but I'll be in London for a couple of nights around June 1. What to do? My preference is acoustic music. Any good sources for club info. in London?
Phil W
http://www.thebandagency.com/londonweb/londonacousticvenues.html I've heard good things about the Kashmir club and spent time at the 12 Bar Club in Denmark Street. http://www.12barclub.com/ http://www.kashmirklub.com/ Presuming you mean acousic folky/singersonwritery kind of music as opposed to acoustic jazz. http://philwbass.com
Phil W
Maybe we could do a gig together on one of the open nights? http://philwbass.com

gitfidler
Phil W, I like the description 'singy/songwritery'; but no, that would not be my first choice. I like anything on acoustic guitar, pop/rock, jazz etc. My fine electrics are rusting away in their cases while I chase some CSN, John Mayer, James Taylor (the US version) delusion. gitfidler
p.s. Phil, The open mic nights are apparently all on weekdays. I'll be in Exeter those days. Open mics must be a big deal in UK, there's quite a lot of info about them on the internet.
Phil W
Hey Lenny, how was the gig? Gitfidler, that's a shame - yeah the open mics are normally on week nights so the clubs can boost their takings with all the musicians and their friends through the doors. Weekends, everywhere in London is full regardless of what quality entertainmment, bilge or lack thereof that they provide. Yeah I would prefer acoustic music like jazz, CSN, John Mayer, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell etc. The Kashmir club would definitley suit except that as it's a weeknight it doesn't suit at all. I'll keep my ears to the ground regarding a weekend acoustic jam night/performances. http://philwbass.com
gitfidler
Thanks, Phil, just a good club in town on Saturday would be great. I'm open to all sortsa stuff.
