Gradumacation

So, I was gonna wait on this until next week, when the act finally happens, but it already got spilt in another thread (no thanks to myself), so now is as good of time as any to announce that I formally graduate college from the University of Colorado at Boulder next week with a B.S. in Mass Communication and Journalism and a minor in political science.

Aside from having a B.S. in journalism (I love that :D ), I mainly focused my studies on the political and social aspects of public opinion rather than wasting time with more reporting and editing classes. I did get to write two 40-page thesis papers for that, which, I guess, is my proud college achievement.

After college, I have no idea what I'm doing, since I'm not a fan of the traditional journalism world at all. My strengths are political communication and opinion writing (the latter of which I won a national award for), but we'll see where I go from here.

I'm just glad to be done with college and out of this strange place called Boulder, Colorado.

P.S. Thanks for all the kind support over the years, guys.

Shut up and play.

Congrats! Does this mean you are full of B.S.?

Politics, communications, opinion writing... Sounds like you could be a spokesman for an elected official. Maybe a government agency. Or a think tank. Don't know if any of that appeals to you...

Or a blogger. Not that it would pay the bills...

I'd like to think not, but probably.

Hmmm a book about a bunch of guys/gals that get in a forum and talk about guitars and such.

Actually, most of you haven't been around here as long as I (I came to the forum my senior year of high school), but sophomore year of college, I wrote an essay on this forum for a topic on the public sphere and its transition from the salons, coffeeshops, public meetings, etc. to the Internet, where people across the world can dicusss anything. I interviewed several people on this forum, including Tedster, NMcGuitar, and a few others (I forgot who I was able to inlcude). Unfortunately, I cannot find the essay in my personal files, but if you do a search with my screen name and public sphere, you may find it.

Hey the fast food thing was the first thing I thought of too!

Don't kid yourselves. If I don't find a real job within a month or so...

Congratulations! That's a big accomplishment. So...I guess you've decided against graduate studies?

I thought about it. I have the determination, pedantic opinions, and intelligence to be a professor. I doubt I have the patience to get there though.

Shut up and play.

Well, I thought I wanted to do that initially, but I have a few problems: Without getting too political, I will just say I despise 99 percent of the government and cannot stand both major political parties. The think tank track would be right up my alley, but believe it or not, you don't make much money doing that unless you do it for so long that you can get on the lecture circuit and make $10,000 an hour (Not that that interests me at all. :D Gotta love America).

Shut up and play.
