Andy Vengeance
hey guys i just bought a schecter c-1 classic. i wanted to put an emg 81/85 in it, but afraid to change the look on the guitar. ive been trying to find some sort of pickup covers for the emgs, so that they can have a gold cover on to them. if that is possible and someone can swing me in the right direction to getting some gold covers? thanks a lot. The Geoff
Allparts & Stewmac do humbucker covers - I think you can even get gold Tommy Iomi(sp?) - no poles showing - that'd be cool!! G. Andy Vengeance
http://www.allparts.com/categories.php?cat_id=619&cat_name=PICKUP%20COVERS do you think the PC_0307-002 on that. [gold with no holes] will match up to the look of http://galluccimusic.com/Site/Schecter/C-1%20Classic/Vintage%20SB/C-1%20Classic%20001.jpg also how does the coverings on an emg work? you just lay it on top of the emg pickup?[entire thing including black cover]? The Geoff
That's a lovely guitar - I'd leave it exactly as it is. Why not just use a booster? But to answer your question: No, you'd need to take the original cover off the EMGs and I'm not sure how EMGs are constructed, so I'm not sure how sensible this would be - can you order them in gold? I don't know, maybe someone can tell us. Anyway, the new pickup covers are usually slipped on over the pickup and tagged round about the middle of each long edge with a spot of solder. The whole pup is then waxed (usually, kills most of the microphony), so yours would be missing out on this process. The cover also needs to be grounded, so often a contact is made from the 'spot solder' to the termination of the ground conductor. IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH SOLDERING AND OTHER WORK LIKE THIS, TAKE IT TO A GUITAR TECH OR LUTHIER. IT'S *VERY EASY* TO KILL A PICKUP DOING THIS KIND OF THING. In fact, the more I read this, the more I think I'd just leave it alone.
