miroslav
Musicians Friend is taking orders...and I was told it's due any day...and that they already have a HUGE number pre-ordered, but their expected shipment amount has not yet been completely depleted by the pre-orders. So....there's still a few available in the expected first shipment. I just ordered mine...otherwise, it might take 2-3 shipment "waves" before they actually have any in-stock just sitting there. I figured since I have two VJ heads...I should get at least one of the cabs to go along. Heck...$130 for a 112 cab that looks real retro-sweet...is just such a no-brainer...... miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." Michael Patrick
Miroslav, Have you had your VJ modded? I had a guy do a few simple mods to mine, and it totally rocks! What kind of speakers do they put in the cab? Here's a couple of clips of mine: Running Down a Dream Tush GDTRFB No pedals were harmed in the making of these clips... miroslav
Are you talking about the VJ combo or the VJ head? I know the combo has become a target for many mods for a lot of guys. The only mod I've done to one of my heads is that I added a Standby switch, since I do a LOT of guitar and cabinet switching when I am recording...and it's just easier, safer, and better sounding to my ears to hit the Standby...than to pull the cable or worry about any signal hitting the amp while I'm swapping cabs..etc. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." Michael Patrick
The VJ Head is what I have. Here a link to the website of the guy who did the mods. I don't know what all he did, but it sure sounds good. And the price can't be beat. What speakers do they load in the VJ cab that MF is going to be selling? Michael Patrick
Thanks, glad you dug 'em... For Running Down a Dream and Going Down the Road Feeling Bad I used a thin skin '62 reissue Strat, and for Tush I used a Les Paul Studio. The cabinet was a beat-to-hell Marshall 1960TV cab with the stock greenbacks. miroslav
I just found out that the Epi VJ cabs may(?) be backordered 'til the end of June....??? I didn't really need mine in a hurry...but it's a bit frustrating when there's no firm ETA. It's kinda' odd that a big retailer like MF (and others) who are obviously in communication with the manufacturers all the time (as they move a lot of gear for those manufacturer's) can't get better info on shipping expectations? Even more weird is the fact that the manufacturers can't offer up accurate info!!! What...they can't gauge how fast their assembly lines and shipping departments are moving...? DUH! Anyway...sorry if anyone else got stirred up and ordered one...but at least MF does NOT charge your card until the item ships. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." miroslav
What really pisses me off...is that last night I was bouncing around eBay and I saw a cab that I've wanted for some time now...the Peavey tweed 115E, which is no longer in production and it would go great with my recently acquired Peavey Delta Blues. Well...It was JUST listed...with BIN price of $130 + $50 Shipping... ...and I hesitated for like 5 minutes thinking about, having just ordered that Epi VJ cab. And then I refreshed the page one time as I was close to hitting the BIN button...and man!!!...some one beat me to it! Had I known the Epi cab was going to stall for a couple of months...I would have been a bit faster making the decision on the Peavey 115E!!! miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." Junior 1
That VJ cab is 16 ohm and rated at 70 watts! Isn't that odd for a 5 watt tube amp? I picked up a dead Valve Special and turned it into a 10 inch cab for my VJ head. I really like the way it sounds. I have a 12 inch Celestion Rocket 50, 8 ohm, 50 watts, that I was using, but prfer the 10 inch. The 12 is louder, but harsh after doing the A/B thing. I think at $130 it's a no brainer also, but I think I'm going to wait till I can get some feedback on the sound of it from Miro!!!
revolead
What do you guys think of running the VJ into a British-voiced 4x12 speakers to get more of that Marshall sound? I was thinking of building a 4x12 cabinet out of some Red Coat Governors. They're supposed to be like Celestion Vintage 30s, but not quite so expensive. Plus, I like the large diversity Eminence offers. Shut up and play.
chris nickey
wow that's the coolest little bastard i ever saw!!!! how much for the head ??? $129.00 also??? ya gotta love the epiphoneproduct line man !!! all chinese but who cares !!! i just bought a 149.00 $ les paul special from MF ........ what can i say but wow !!! what a good deal . i thought it would be a joke knock around toy but it sounds real good and stays in tune, and it's totally gig worthy ! epiphone gets my vote for best "budget" musical instruments/ gear currently on the market . (did i also mention that i bought an epi dot 335 copy for 300.00 and it too kicks ass!!!)

miroslav
What do you guys think of running the VJ into a British-voiced 4x12 speakers to get more of that Marshall sound? Though I generally use the Epi with a 115 for most things...I've tried it with a 112 (open and closed) a closed 212 and a closed 412. Sounds great with any of them. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."

I liked the sound of the H30s better, it had a bit more bite. Keep in mind that my VJ has been modded, so YMMV... b3_john
I tried to follow up with MF on this, since they seem to be updating the 'available date' every day with today's date on their website. The very helpful rep told me basically they didn't know anything, it could be backordered for any reason, he volunteer that it could be available any time or not at all, and also that it could be any of a thousand reasons why. He had no idea how or why the available date was updated everyday, apparently that's a normal thing for MF. Made me proud to be a customer... miroslav
FYI..... I just received the email confirmation from Musician's Friend that my VJ cabinet has been shipped out. They're here! If you go to the MF website...it shows they are "In Stock"...but for some reason the "Pre order" message box is still there...? I actually received an email a few days ago saying mine was due on the 18th...then today I got the shipping confirmation. I'll post back my opinion on the cabinet as soon as I get it and try it out. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." b3_john
I also got the same email yesterday. The tracking number they gave me doesn't register on UPS's tracking site yet, but its all good knowing its in transit. The MF warehouse that they ship from (KC) isn't all that far from here so ground shipments usually only take a day or two. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this cab with a twelve sounds with that Valve Junior amp head. Call me cautiously optimistic. miroslav
I'm sure they designed/matched it with some planning and testing... ...and it's not just a 12" tossed into a wooden box that has the same looks as the head. The Epi VJ head has become such hit item...the cab has to live up to it. I hope I'm right. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important." miroslav
OK...the Epiphone Valve Junior cabinet has arrived! It looks really sweet! The grill cloth is very "cloth" like...though I don't know what it's made of...? But it's not that rough kind of grill cloth...it actually has a very soft/silky feel to it. So...I connected it with one of my VJ heads...and let it rip. Damn...it sounds very, very good! I tired it at low volumes and all the way up on "11"...and it's quite good. I like it much better than my other 112 cab which has a Celestion Vintage 30 in it (which I always thought sounded a bit harsh). This Lady Luck Eminance is much smoother, but it translates the full-tilt amp break up just right. Anyway...I will give it a better breaking in over the weekend...but I can already see that it was a very well spent $130!!! If you need a 112...even if you don't have a VJ head...and you don't want to drop a few hundred on one...then check out this little puppy. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."
