Which keyboard?

i´m 19. i played the piano from 8 till 14, and then in 5 years touched the piano twice. lately (last 10 months) i play it 2-3 hours a day - rock, pop etc. i only play chords and bass with the left. some lads want me in their rock band to play the keyboard but i don´t know what to buy. i need a good piano sound, rhodes, hammond and a weighted key. im new in this so i dont need anything special - good value for money, and simple for use.

thx

It sounds to me like a digital piano would fit the bill. Its hard to know what to recommend since you didn't specify the budget you have to work with. All my suggestions are based on price not preference and are all new models.

From Low to High

Casio PX-110

M-Audio ProKeys 88

Casio PX-310

Yamaha YDP 620

Casio Privia PX-700

Kurzweil SP88X

Korg SP250

Roland FP-2

Roland FP-4

Yamaha CP33

Roland RD-300SX

Kawaii MP4

Korg SP500

Roland FP-5

Kurzweil PC1X

Roland FP-7

Yamaha S90 ES

Roland RD-700SX

Kurzweil PC2X-O

Yamaha CP300

Kawai MP8

Keep in mind that everyone tastes in sound and action are different. You should really try to get out and try as many things as possible.

I'd like to add the Korg TR88 to the Geico (comprehensive) list SDS put together. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

The M-Audio Prokeys88 should be at the very bottom of your list. I think it would make a decent studio controller especially if "other" people are banging on it but not a live performance board.

I have played the Roland FP4 and it is a very good DP especially for the sounds you stated above.

What are the chances of you getting down to a music store and playing these boards for yourself?

Canvassing the board (pun intended) for opinions is cool but at some point, you will have to lay hands on the product(s). That is best part of making such a purchase decision.

I find this is the hardest part, especially if you live away from the big cities where the music places are likely to be. Even so, where I live (Singapore) is a very big city, but has very little in the way of comprehensive music retailers.

So although finding and demoing boards is HIGHLY recommended (you can never be sure when you buy blind), it's never all that easy.

I live in Rijeka, and there are three music shops in which i can play only the yamaha cp33 and casio (not impressive). i also played the kurzweil sp88x for some 20 minutes which seems to be a great board....

Hi Kresimir and welcome to the forums.

The Kurzweil SP88X is now rather old and was replaced by the newer PC88X. The X at the end means the keyboard is fully weighted, so if you see a PC88 you might find the touch too light.

Unless there are not much digital piano available in the stores over there, I recommend you test the digital piano you want to buy.

Hey, we wrote at the same time.

Well, if you like the Kurz SP88X and can find an used Kurz PC88X, you might like it even better.

In any case, choose your digital piano according to your ears and feel.
