OT - Anyone use AudioLabel??

Hey guys, a few months ago I purchased the current version of AudioLabel. I'm called upon to make CD & DVD labels from time to time at work and Avery Media Software has been a nightmare since my computer was upgraded to a WinXP machine. The XP version of AMS mis-places the visual, onscreen borders (inside more than outside) of the disc. I downloaded AudioLabel as a demo and immediately gained a true, WYSIWYG display as well as wonderful auto size and wrap for text that intelligently avoids putting text outside the label area. It received 5 stars from a bunch of known, online resources.

Here are my issues...

  1. The program forces you to choose either a single or double disc. When in single mode you can choose, in the print setup screen, to print top, bottom or "duplicate" (both on a single page). For some reason, when I print to duplicate it only transfers images to both labels. If I last printed to top then the bottom lacks any text boxes and vice-versa. I haven't had any luck searching for additional controls to decide how much of a label will duplicate when that feature is chosen. I'm pretty sure it's suppoesed to do what it says, duplicate everything to the other label, with no option to pick and choose.
  2. I tried to visit their website and everything but the homepage was gone! All links lead to "that page does not exist on this server" messages. Does anyone know if they've ceased business or moved to another location without a link there? The name of the company is Cripple Creek Software, but I've been unable to find anything else on them.

I hate software glitches.

Neil,

I moved over to the Epson R300 quite a few years ago. I was a beta tester for the Avery labels (Word Perfect 5.2!!!!) and I had long term problems with them lifting. I also tried the Neato labels and just about all of the other brands. I think that I ended up using Ace labels from Arcal, from whom I also bought custom length custom loaded blank cassettes and other studio stuff.

But moving to the Epson was a joy, as I use the TY disks (the best...) with white tops. The Epson software is clumsy, but does the job properly.

You could take the time to create an MS Word template. It is not that hard to create a custom paper definition. That would give you the most flexibility.

By the way, don't use labels on disks that you send out for duplication. The weight of the labels seems to adversely affect the error rate.

I went to the http://www.audiolabel.com/ website. I had no problems accessing all of the pages that were offered. I went through a bunch of them, and hit some of the screenshots, too. Maybe they were doing maintenance the day you tried.

Hey Bill,

This is for work stuff. 1 minute per print + the cost of extra ink just won't cut it for 90% or more of what I'm labeling. We actually have an R300 and and R320 our production manager bought. (He went to buy ink and ended up getting a better deal buying a whole other Epson printer! And that one came with a set of full ink carts! :D) He just gave us the R300 but it simply isn't efficient for my purposes.

I would never use an MS Word Template. They're a much bigger PITA than running the label page through twice, once printing top then second printing bottom. The word wrap and image functions on Audiolabel are fantastic.

{edit} Yikes! I switched rendering engines to IE inside Firefox and everything's working! :freak: I wonder why my Firefox can't seem to find the additional pages beyond the homepage. :confused: {end edit}

What I can't understand is how you're accessing all the pages on the www.audiolabel.com site. I went from your link (to the same page I'd been going to) and again none of the links work save for the "Download" button in the middle of the page.

I'm allowing scripts on their page in Firefox (and the problem occurred in IE, too, for that matter) so I just don't get why it can't find their pages..

I dunno. Just using MS IE, nothing special.

Hey, you know one time recently I was cut off from a web page in a similar way... I could only get to the home page and then I got errors telling me that I was not authorised to view the other pages. I coul dgte to all the pages through any computer except the one that I typically use to crawl the internet.

I wiped out my cookies, and that fixed it. I don't know what got loaded that should not have, or why I could not access these pages... they wer nothing special, just some cork flooring adverts from a flooring reseller.

Hey Bill...

First, thanks again for mentioning the site worked. I switched rendering engines inside FF and it worked fine. Mr. Rolfe at AudioLabel informed me there was an update I hadn't received which was a few seconds download, a few seconds installing and voila! Problem fixed.

I told him about the FF/Netscape issue with the pages. Seems I was being directed to pages labeled "/p1", "/p2", etc. rather than "/customer_support.html", etc. He's checking into the programming on his web page.

Either way, I have to again shout to the rafters what a great program AudioLabel is. It's quick and easy to setup custom labels with graphics in seconds! And now I know the customer support is really solid! :thu:

  • 6 years later...

My daughter used to( still does, as my moxie for it is nill)make CD and DVD copies of discs and movies for me and stick labels on them. Don't know just what system or other stuff she used, but we both discovered that we had to wind up scraping all the labels off CDs and DVDs in order to play them successfully on our players. Otherwise, there would be major glitches in the playback.

I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
