Studio Overhaul

Recommended Posts

Well I finally pulled the trigger and did a major overhaul. Over the last few months I've been tinkering with the idea of adding or redoing my studio, in terms of changing the feel and much of the equipment. I began the process by upgrading my mixer as I needed more options then what I had. 8 tracks to 32 was a huge jump and opened up alot of avenues. Secondly I upgraded a Triton LE to an Extreme. Both of these upgrades happened last year actually but they started the process that got this whole chain reaction going.

So over these past few weeks, I sold My Yamaha S90ES, My Sealer, My older version of Sonar, My copy of Notion, Steinberg Virtual Drummer, and some nick-nack things around the house.

I got the following things; Roland Fantom X8, Roland V Synth, 2 SRX expansion Cards, A newer version of Sonar, and the Korg Karma Triton Software. To create this scenario, I only had to pay 300 out of pocket. I got great deals on everything as the upcoming new keyboards helped me negotiate great prices on used items. I spent alot of time thinking about what I wanted to do and what could best get me there within my budget. All in all I'm really happy with what I accomplished and looking forward to the things I can do with this equipment.

SDS,

why did you sell S90ES, UI problems? Although I can understand FantomX8 is great board too.

Anyway redoing studio is good thing, usually you come up with new ideas just because of the change.

I'm thinking about adding new motif XS6 to S90ES to complete the set, but to do that I need to sell first my FP5...

No not at all. Oops double negative (peeking for the grammar police) I really hated parting with it but I had to in order to make this change work. The UI was a non issue once I took the time to learn it. In the end I sold my S90ES for a decent price and it was hard to justify keeping it and the Fantom X8 from a cost perspective and a space perspective.

SDS, congrats on your purchases and upgrades. Of course, selling the S90ES sounds like heresy but if you are happy with the sounds, that is great. :thu:

Have fun with your new toys. Just in time for KC Comp #13.
