wraub
Hello, kiddies. Any NY types know of a reliable luthier in the city (or Brooklyn)? Who does your work? Thanks... Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.

_Sweet Willie_
Assuming you need repair type work and not a new bass built, I highly recommend Evan Gluck on the Upper West Side (with music-man's blessing, to be sure). NY Guitar Repair Other friends of mine have had Evan work on their g****rs and basses and been exceptionally pleased with the service and the prices. Peace. --SW spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Tom Capasso
I've also had work done by Jimmy and recommend it. Nicklab
I might have to call one of these guys. A couple of my basses need a good fret dressing. He refretted a Maple necked P Bass for me.. five star work.. +1 to Dan - I know whom he speaks of and he's right. Also, there's a young woman in W.Palm. She's a blugrass player (builds her own guitars and mandolins). She's the only person who's worked on my gear when it comes to really delicate stuff. She did the fret dressing on my old 'Ray and it never played so nice before that. ...'course that doesn't mean squat if you don't want to ship it. wraub
Thanks all for responding. Maury, Tom, Dan- I have heard good things about Jimmy's work, and played his basses, which are nice. He seems like a decent enough sort to speak with. So, when I got my Squier Jazz, it needed bridge screws and a strap knob and I went to his shop. Originally apparently excited upon seeing the 70s G&G case it was in, the visible look of disdain he displayed upon seeing the logo on the peghead said a lot about possible attention to the work, and attitude towards me as a customer. I'm sure he's fine on the average Lull, Kinal, Fodera, or vintage Fender, though. I still have reservations. Dr. Sweetness- I seem to remember you mentioning Evan before, and the site you linked has prices that sound reasonable. It looks like I need either a fret filing or a partial re-fret, both of which I lack the space, tools, equipment, and supplies to properly do here. Nick- And no, not gonna ship it. Wouldn't be prudent. Thanks, though. As for the baby? This is from this past weekend: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v336/R&H3000/Maceo/04-01-07020e2.jpg Thanks again all. Mike Chini
My experience with Jimmy was VERY similar to wraub's. Enough said about that. I purchased a new MIA jazz at Umanov's and must say that ALL of the basses I tried in that store were really well set-up. I plan on going there for my next set-up. Tom Capasso
Wraub, How's he going to start on sax with all that circus blanket stuff? He's lookin good !! You may not want to try to get past Jimmie's attitude. He still looks for ways to make the Kinal more "Fender-like". I tend to ignore the posturing and focus on the work, which he does very well. Still, if he's not to your liking, there are plenty of places to go. Chini's mention of Umanov reminded me that there is a guitar shop in the village that even Umanov sends some of his work. Not sure of the name, but it might be Ludlow Guitars... Tom www.stoneflyrocks.com Acoustic Color Be practical as well as generous in your ideals. _Sweet Willie_
Seriously, call up Gluck at NY Gtr Repairs. Talk to him about your needs. I've heard nothing but good, even if he's a little less accessible to you than some others being further north on Manhattan Isle. Peace. --Dub $$ spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes!
