Rod S
It had been a long time since I had seen this movie. I was at a store the other day and they were blowing out the DVD that had a whole other disc of 'making off' type of material. Since I'm a sucker for this and I really like this movie, I ended up buying it. Was watching it yesterday... So... on the end scene, the common knowledge is that it's an ARP 2500 (in a futuristic looking console) and the guy playing it was an ARP employee. But in the middle of the movie they are playing what looks like a 70s Yamaha (I think). It's the scene where they are in the office looking at the numbers (which they later figure out are latitude and longitude coordinates) and there's this synth on the middle of the room, with a guy playing the 5 note sequence. Anyone know what synth it is? My girlfriend is still looking at me funny for having paused the movie at that point to take a closer look. Rod S
Forgot to add - it looks like a Yamaha CS-50 from the back... (Yes, I'm bored out of mind today - I'm sick as hell and my girlfriend if off dining with her parents...) The Real MC
CS-50 didn't exist when they made that movie.
burningbusch
The movie came out in 1977. I think I used to own one of those things but I can't remember what the model # is. Could it be this? http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/yamaha_sy1.jpg SY1/SY2 Busch.
Rod S
Thanks Bill, I'm pretty sure that was it. It was definitely a small keyboard with the yamaha colored buttons typical at the time - that's got to be it.... ABECK
That guy could have used a sequencer - had to play the same part over and over again (wasn't he using his pinky?) I'll have to pop in the DVD later, but it sure looked like a Yamaha of some kind.
Tonysounds
"THAT GUY" was Alan R. Pearlman (of A.R.P. fame). Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.
ABECK
In the end scene, it was Philip Dodd, an ARP employee who was playing the 2500. In the scene with the little Yamaha, It was the Claude Lacombe character, played by François Truffaut.

ABECK
O.k. - I watched this scene last night. It was definitely the SY2. Very similar to the SY1 (pic posted above), but instead of wood it had tolex and some additional features. http://www.hollowsun.com/donations/sy2/index.html
