doc taz
I like his first album a lot, "Room For Squares." He's got a good grasp of using some jazzy chords on that album. From what I've seen of him in various live video, including that link, John's even better live. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page

MILLO
Nice. Excuse my ignorance, guys... Regarding the tone: Is that position 2 (neck & middle p/ups)? ...w/ a slight chorus or flanger or phaser? Fumblyfingers
I think I mentioned to you guys that I met him and that he sat down with a Martin and did an impromptu jam for us at my work. It was a real intimate setting to say the least, he sat on a stool in between a couple of movie sets, just him and the guitar..... which he presented to Keifer later. It was great, he poured his heart out on every word and note. I had previously bought his Heavier Things album based on the GP hype, but was not impressed. But after that I was a convert. I still am not a huge hard core fan, but I'm not a fan of anyone new really so it means little. One of the crew recorded video of it on a cell phone and I have a copy. I watch it occasionally. I'd feel really cheap putting it on the web, besides the performance was done in good faith, seems to me that having footage of it is a part of that. Anyway we suited him up in CTU operative garb, bullet proof vest and the uniform and a sidearm and he had a ton of fun acting out on set. Tell you what, he seemed humble, appreciative and very sincere and that alone almost counted more to me than his really great chops.
Dr. Ellwood
Hay Fumble ya should have grabbed that Martin and showed him a few FORUM RIFFS!!! I bet he would have been suprised! but what a fun thing to have witnessed, yeah I agree it would be uncool to post that footage but also neat to see! too bad there isnt some way to post it and keep it kinda private but there is no way on the internet I guess!! http://www.thestringnetwork.com
MILLO
would any of the Strat & fx connoiseurs care to comment on my question above? Dr. Ellwood
I'm thinking you are probably right MILLO, most likely pos.#2 and the FX is most likely a Univibe adjusted over toward the chorus side. I know when I use my UltraVibe I can easily get that vibe. On this Jimi tune I used it, less toward chorus and more toward the octavia side of the adjustments: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=372411&songID=4439424 http://www.thestringnetwork.com
MILLO
ellwood: thanks for the answer!... wow.... so a "univibe" is like a chorusy flangy phasy type thing? Produces octave overtones too? It's been described to me before as a swirling sound and that makes sense, and I'm sure I've asked the same question here... sorry:thu:. I guess that's the reason of the "uni" name, it's a bit of different fx in one unit? MAybe there'll be some info of his setup on his website, I'll google that later on. Dr. Ellwood
Yeah, I've got the older version the UniVibe the newer one is a bit smaller and is the MojoVibe by Sweet Electronics, they sound great and fit on your peddle board better. The speed control and intensity of the sweep is very adjustable and is very quiet as far as insertion type hiss. I think you would really like it. http://www.thestringnetwork.com
Darklava
Cool vid i like JM a lot not just because of the Hendrix tune i think he's the total package, sing, play, and he writes good songs The story of life is quicker then the blink of an eye, the story of love is hello, goodbye. fantasticsound
I think he's a wonderful guitarist and performer, but I could really be happy if I never heard him sing again. His voice does absolutely nothing for me. He did a decent high energy version of Route66 on the Cars movie soundtrack, but it went on way too long. As a guitarist I was pretty bored, and I like other things I've heard from JM, but this quickly became very repetitive.. and redundant.. it just went on and on without saying anything new. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd
Big Red 67
I dunno. I really liked some of the the vox on the trio album. He reminded me allot of Stevie. It is a really good album if just for the musicians on it. I mean look at the talent!!! Big Red's Ride Blog

mdrs
My youngest brother, who's a really good guitarist, started hyping JM to me years ago. My son's and I really REALLY made fun of him for liking JM. We'd ask him if his body was a wonderland as well.....LOL But, in reality, the more I've listened to JM, the more I really like the guy. He's not something really new. He's not opening doors. But, he's a really good guitarist, with great feel and tone. I, personally, have grown to like his vocals. Although, I do hear what you are saying, Neil. At first I felt that JM's vocals were "too affected", or fake. I've come to like his vocals more now. He's the total package....handsome kid, unique and great voice, totally respectable guitarist, who honors the heratige of great guitar music. I'd have paid alot to have been with you Fumbly.....that must have been cool. Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. BTW....that's Pino Pallidino playing bass with John. Pino really gets around!! I think he's played with everyone!! I do have one criticism of John's playing on that video. He played up on the beat too much. He needed to lay back a bit. I do the same damn thing!!! Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy.
