Chad Thorne
Epiphone is almost the only maker that makes lefty archtops that I wouldn't be ashamed to be seen in public with, and offers them in lefty. I had a Joe Pass - liked it, didn't love it. Thoughts about the Dot? I think Epi used to make a lefty Emperor Regent, not now. This the sort of guitar I really want, a single pickup jazz box. Has anybody seen a lefty Emperor anywhere?
Chad Thorne
Bueller? Bueller? - I can't believe nobody here has an opinion of Epiphone Dots! http://www.websmileys.com/sm/cool/1368.gif
Guitar55
If you can find an Elitist Dot, the quality is much better annd more consistent than their standard model.
WornNeck
Got to say I've had the opposite experience. I've had a standard Dot since '97, swapped in some better pups, and I love it. On the other hand, I checked out an Elitist Dot at the GC, and the craftmenship stunk. So I don't know if it has to do with changes over the years when they were made, or if there is just a lot of variance between individual guitars. At any rate, just make sure you look them over before you buy. If you find a nice one, I don't think you'll be sorry, either way. jonnbee
i bought a standard dot ('98) a while ago to use when my es-345 was in the shop. i agree, there is definitely a difference in each guitar. i tried at least 4 before i found one that felt good to me neck-wise. if i was going to use it a lot, personally, i would change out the pick ups, and tuners. guess i'm used to Gibson Humbuckers. It's a decent (actually really good) guitar for the price. Those who can,do. Those who cannot, usually run the monitor mix.

Scott Fraser
I think Epi used to make a lefty Emperor Regent, not now. This the sort of guitar I really want, a single pickup jazz box. Has anybody seen a lefty Emperor anywhere? I haven't seen a leftish Emperor Regent, but if you find one buy it immediately. I picked up an Emperor Regent a few years ago, lightly used, about 10-15 years old & it's a wonderful jazz guitar. Not an L5 or Super 400, but very well detailed, great fit & finish. Of about a dozen guitars sitting around the studio, it's the one my clients always pick up first, & the one they riff on between takes. Very nice axe. The Big G
Chad I like the emperor but again havent seen one l/handed, i think all the ones i have played have been well made and a lovely warm sound, detailing always seems to be good and they just look and feel real nice. Or maybe an Epi ES175??? As for Epi dots, i rate them in the main, no they are not $1500 (£800) guitars but with maybe a small mod here or there they can be whatever you want them to be. most common is a p/u change, the standard ones are ok without being outstanding. I have played a good few from the 90's and the 00's and they all seemed pretty good guitars, but as we all know no 2 guitars are the same!!!! try lots .
