rockinroller
Would like your opinions on the "best" keyboard for live performance. Here's my priorities: 1. authentic "natural" orchestral sounds including horns, strings, reeds, and especially accoustic piano. 2. If possible, a good Hammond B3/Leslie simulation with foot switch capability to acctuate the Leslie fast-slow effect. 3. Parameter adjustments to fine tune each sound and layer/split as necessary. 4. Preferred used and reasonably cheap (under $400 on Ebay). Preferably 76 notes, even 61 considered. Full sized squared off keys not important. I play one primary keyboard including bass in the left hand (General Music Equinox) and need something easy to manuever with one hand to change registrations, etc. A wheel would be nice. My performance music is primarily 60s' and 70s' classic rock and some off album blues. Thanks! Tonysounds
$400? Authentic orchestral and piano and good B3/leslie? We're still chasing that "all in one" package for $3000. Good luck though! T Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.
K K
The Kurzweil PC1SE or PC2 can do all that. But you won't find them at $400.
Tusker
For $400? That's tough. Roland XP30/XP50/XP80 maybe? Better yet, spend a little more and get a Yamaha S80 or similar. SilverDragonSoun
As stated previously what you want for what your willing to pay is going to be a huge issue. Your really limited and most of the stuff under 400 on ebay is going to sound that way which is unreal and cheesy. You may get lucky and find something used in your price range but in all honesty you probably won't. Jerry +1 on the recommendation of the XPs since they do contain a variety of B&B sounds that will work in this situation. Tom Fiala
For $400....maybe an old M1 or similar? I think your requirements #1 and #4 are mutually exclusive. I'd suggest trying to raise the budget. Tom F. "It is what it is."
kanker.
Also, try not using all caps. I don't know about the other guys, but getting shouted at is not something I dig particularly. A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.

MikeNZ
Ditto... The Kurxweil ME 1 module basically has the guts of a PC1 or PC2 in it. They are $400 new, with one used on Ebay at the moment. There is a review at www.soundonsound.com . Check out the manual before you decide - if I recall correctly you can't save your edits on teh ME 1, although you can edit live. You need to add a controller. You might just be able to get both used for $400 if you get a great price on the ME 1. Michael
MikeNZ
The Roland jv-1010 is also worth looking at. You might be one for $200-$250 if you are lucky.
MidLifeCrisis
Im suprised nobody mentioned the Alesis QS6.1 or 7.1. They are great little all around boards with a wide array of sounds. I have used mine as a stand alone board on small gigs and it is more than passable. You can always find them on Ebay for under $400. MikeNZ
If "best" had not been part of the criteria I'm sure the QS series would have been on the list. Michael
Clifton
M-Audio make a cheap, gigging-oriented 88 key ROMpler for something like $600. Sounds are pretty good from what I've heard, however the action, if it's anything like the M-Audio Keystation 88, might be less than great. MikeNZ
That is the M-Audio Prokeys 88. It does not have realistic orchestral sounds (only has strings if I recall) and has only a couple of organ sounds with limited control. I wouldn't call the sounds 'best' either - the sample splits on the piano sounds really annoyed me. Not the board for our poster! Michael
MidLifeCrisis
If "best" had not been part of the criteria I'm sure the QS series would have been on the list. Michael "Best" is always subjective. I tend to look at it as "bang for the buck". IMHO the Alesis fills that role nicely. There are a few people around here who played a role in the QS series who would probably back me up on that.
