RichieP_MechE
Hello fellow forumites- I just thought I'd pass along this interview of Jon Lord that I found. It's from the January 1989 issue of "Modern Keyboard." Jon Lord Interview It's a good read. Enjoy. -Rich
Mr. Nightime
Nice, Thanks. Jon's always been one of my favorites "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. ProfD
Cool article. I remember clear as a bell when the "Perfect Strangers" album came out. I picked up it right away and my first thought was, "damn these cats do not sound like they ever stopped playing together." DP "PS" Live 1993 Jon Lord must have changed his mind about carrying a portable organ but he gives up the business on the Hammond regardless. Tonysounds
Don't get confused ProfD: the XB2 was a controller for synth sounds, not responsible for his Hammond tone. Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.

I'm hip to the fact that it is just a synth controller. Back in 1989, he wasn't a technicrat i.e. MIDI man. PD "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."--E. matted stump
Several interesting tidbits in that article. I liked how Jon, one of my big influences, was in turn influenced by another one of mine, Mark Stein. My progression back to Jimmy Smith was kind of weird. Instead of starting with the master, I discovered him thru people he had influenced. Ray Manzarek->Mark Stein->Rod Argent->Jon Lord->Jimmy Smith->Brian Auger. Aswepe
I'll have to dig out the DP CD's tonight - fond memories. Lord was always a favorite. Saw Purple live in Eppelheim Germany in 86 or 87. They put on a fantastic show. David http://www.soundclick.com/aardvarktxusa http://www.soundclick.com/polaristxusa

burningbusch
I saw Deep Purple in 1971. They were touring with the Faces (Rod Stewart). Great concert. I was listening to the Hush organ parts the other day. Damn it sounds good. Seriously, can you pull that off on a clone? Busch.
Mr. Nightime
When Jon introduced "Chicken Shack" from his "Live From the Basement" with the Hootchie Cootchie Men, he said it was a song from a hero of his. I thought it very cool when a player of his level acknowledges his influences. Raised my level of respect for him that much higher. "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. I'm listening to Hush right now, and I'm pretty sure it's impossible. I found the section where he discussed the modification of his Hammond to be pretty neat, like how he got he guts of an RMI inside his C3. This article also has me GASing for a Gibson Maestro Ring modulator . Now I just need to find one -Rich

And believe me, I've tried. "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. So God helped him and created woman. Now everybody's got the blues."
