Dr. Ellwood
I was trying to get HardTail to do a song by them "Home Sick" I love that tune and we do it all the time, I was saying that it is a perfect song to solo on and sing! Any of you guys ever work this tune up? I also think Travis Tritt did a great version of it! http://www.thestringnetwork.com
Strategery
I'm an ARS fan but we never did that one. Sorry. We wound up playing Champagne Jam, Imaginary Lover, or a couple of the others. Randy "Just play!"
Bluesape
We do "Spooky" most gigs, usually as the opener. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
S. Yeti Bigfoot, Esq.
ARS plays at the park behind my house once in a while. It's been a couple of years since they played here, but I can either sit on my deck and listen to it or just walk through the back part of my property and watch it at the Amphitheater. That's about the only big name band that ever plays there, though. "And so I definitely, when I have a daughter, I have a lot of good advice for her." ~Paris Hilton BWAAAHAAAHAAHAAA!!! S. Yeti Bigfoot, Esq.
Didn't the big guy that played bass die a while back? Randy No. The singer, Ronnie Hamilton made a cop shoot his ass in Macon and almost died, but he's OK now. The drummer did die a few years ago, but I don't remember what killed him. I think he collapsed after a show and died. I don't remember his name. "And so I definitely, when I have a daughter, I have a lot of good advice for her." ~Paris Hilton BWAAAHAAAHAAHAAA!!! Strategery
Wow...I knew he had spent some jail time, but not what for. Geez. :grin:I heard he even had to do some community service..ie...trash pickup and the like. Also, didn't know the drummer died. Sorry to hear that. I last saw them several years back in Montgomery, Al at a night club. The singer was an A$$ and told my wife, who is an Atlanta native, to shove it when she asked for an autograph. That really pissed me off too. There's no need in that kind of nonsense. Damn primadonnas.I guess there's justice after all. Randy "Just play!" S. Yeti Bigfoot, Esq.
How many of the Clasics IV went to ARS? Buddy Buie and J.R. Cobb. Buie had also been with Roy Orbison and The Candymen and he brought in three more members from that band. They were Rodney Justo, Dean Daughtry, and Robert Nix. By the way, the Drummer that collapsed and died who's name I couldn't remember was R.J. Vealy. b3_john
Yeah, I've liked that song for a long time esp. that riff. When I was still carting around the Rhodes (20 years ago) I worked up a number of ARS tunes including that one, and the ones Strategery mentioned. The other guitarist hated ARS, thought of it all as "mellow music from a mellow band". The same guy hated "Stormy Monday" for the same reason, go figure. b3_john
"Home Sick" ..MELLOW???? not really! Yeah, that's what the 'smilie' was for. But he associated ARS with "Spooky", just couldn't get past it. Dr. Ellwood
Ahhhhh Ok, I missed the face! gotcha! it's hard to believe that same band that did Spooky ..actually did a blaster like Home Sick! http://www.thestringnetwork.com
S. Yeti Bigfoot, Esq.
Well, it was actually Dennis Yost and The Classics IV that did Spooky originally, but a couple of the Classics IV ex-band members were in ARS. Shoes
Oh ya... I was so into them I couldn't think of nothing else  That was great stuff and it was all over the airwaves back in the day. Never did know what happened to them. I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.
Mudcat
I always thought the rhythm player had a really different sound compared to everyting else on the radio at the time. He used pretty unique chord voicings and had a really nice clean tone. I also remember they were one of the first endorsers of Lab Series amps. They had used Marshalls previously, so it was a huge change for them. I remember reading about the lead player really having to adapt to the solid state Labs in a GP article back in the day. S. Yeti Bigfoot, Esq.
Come on! We can find a place for everybody. They'll be starting the summer concert series soon...I'm not sure who will play this year. They'll also have another series of concerts at the park in downtown Woodstock (about 6 miles from here). Zuben
SPOOKY, which I think is a classic and a great guitarist song, would have been one of those songs my HS band would have played for 20 - 30 minutes! Ahhh.. I loved those days. Play a whole dance and only play 10 songs all night. As for the ARS, I always liked their music but never cared for them in concert. mdrs
Zub....I always kind of thought of ARS as a studio band. But, I never saw them live. I'll take your word about them live. I suspect that you know of what you speak!! BTW....I can't remember the exact date of when I may have seen you and the guy in that first photo.... I'm pretty sure it was about two years ago??? I remember that for the encore, they brought out some of their kids to play with them on stage, and it brought tears to my eyes!!! Two of my boys play, and it was just too cool for an old fart like me to imagine being able to play with your kids on stage...... Were you there???? I'm trying to dig out the exact date.
