ARS plays at the park behind my house once in a while. It's been a couple of years since they played here, but I can either sit on my deck and listen to it or just walk through the back part of my property and watch it at the Amphitheater. That's about the only big name band that ever plays there, though.

Didn't the big guy that played bass die a while back?

Randy

No. The singer, Ronnie Hamilton made a cop shoot his ass in Macon and almost died, but he's OK now.

The drummer did die a few years ago, but I don't remember what killed him. I think he collapsed after a show and died. I don't remember his name.

Wow...I knew he had spent some jail time, but not what for. Geez.

I heard he even had to do some community service..ie...trash pickup and the like.

Also, didn't know the drummer died. Sorry to hear that.

I last saw them several years back in Montgomery, Al at a night club.

The singer was an A$$ and told my wife, who is an Atlanta native, to shove it when she asked for an autograph.

That really pissed me off too. There's no need in that kind of nonsense.

Damn primadonnas.

I guess there's justice after all.

How many of the Clasics IV went to ARS?

Buddy Buie and J.R. Cobb. Buie had also been with Roy Orbison and The Candymen and he brought in three more members from that band. They were Rodney Justo, Dean Daughtry, and Robert Nix.

By the way, the Drummer that collapsed and died who's name I couldn't remember was R.J. Vealy.

Yeah, I've liked that song for a long time esp. that riff. When I was still carting around the Rhodes (20 years ago) I worked up a number of ARS tunes including that one, and the ones Strategery mentioned. The other guitarist hated ARS, thought of it all as "mellow music from a mellow band". The same guy hated "Stormy Monday" for the same reason, go figure.

"Home Sick" ..MELLOW???? not really!

Yeah, that's what the  'smilie' was for. But he associated ARS with "Spooky", just couldn't get past it. People can be funny like that sometimes.

Oh ya... I was so into them I couldn't think of nothing else

That was great stuff and it was all over the airwaves back in the day. Never did know what happened to them.

I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.

I always thought the rhythm player had a really different sound compared to everyting else on the radio at the time. He used pretty unique chord voicings and had a really nice clean tone.

I also remember they were one of the first endorsers of Lab Series amps. They had used Marshalls previously, so it was a huge change for them. I remember reading about the lead player really having to adapt to the solid state Labs in a GP article back in the day.

Guitars ring in the dead of night, sing so blue, sound so right

It makes you homesick

Listen close to the guitar man, native son of a foreign land

The boy's homesick

He's homesick, for days bygone

Homesick, for home sweet home

Where were you in '69, smokin' dope, drinkin' wine

Just an outlaw

Distant drums beats an old refrain, shakes your feet, pounds your brain

Like a buzzsaw

In the darkness down the hall, black-light posters on the wall

Jimi Hendrix

Someone's lost in yesterday, hazy dreams of Monterey

And Woodstock, all right

He's homesick, for days bygone

Homesick, for home sweet home

Guitars ring in the dead of night, sing so blue, sound so right

It makes you homesick

Listen close to the guitar man, native son of a foreign land

The boy's homesick

He's homesick, for days bygone

Homesick, Lord, for home sweet home

The boy's homesick

Come on! We can find a place for everybody. They'll be starting the summer concert series soon...I'm not sure who will play this year. They'll also have another series of concerts at the park in downtown Woodstock (about 6 miles from here). Last year Little Feat played it.

I really enjoyed ARS, and even loved Spooky...hell, you can play lead to that song FOR EVER!! And, it kind of begs for a funky kind of blues lead. I love that :thu:

Now, how come I can't remember that Homesick song???

SPOOKY, which I think is a classic and a great guitarist song, would have been one of those songs my HS band would have played for 20 - 30 minutes! Ahhh.. I loved those days. Play a whole dance and only play 10 songs all night.

As for the ARS, I always liked their music but never cared for them in concert.

Peace

Zub....I always kind of thought of ARS as a studio band. But, I never saw them live. I'll take your word about them live. I suspect that you know of what you speak!! ;)

BTW....I can't remember the exact date of when I may have seen you and the guy in that first photo....

I'm pretty sure it was about two years ago??? I remember that for the encore, they brought out some of their kids to play with them on stage, and it brought tears to my eyes!!! Two of my boys play, and it was just too cool for an old fart like me to imagine being able to play with your kids on stage......

Were you there???? I'm trying to dig out the exact date.
