Wally Malone
For now! A few weeks ago I traded my Eden Metro combo for an Accugroove Tri210L. Hear is the rig as it is now: Stewart 2.1Read Purity PreampAccugroove Tri112Accugroove Tri210LF-Bass BN5 This combination is incredible with the Stewart in bridged mono mode. Although all my basses sound great through this rig the F-Bass has taken the front seat and has become my first call bass. I've only played this whole rig at home so far and haven't gotten it out on a gig. My wife did come down to our practice room and asked me to turn it down, I was shaking things all over the house. Can't wait to get it out, especially for outdoor gigs. Wally I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make!
JBFLA
Wally - How do you like the Purity? If I was to replace my Demeter VTBP201 (older style), the Read is what I'd get...you know, after I win the Lottery.Jack does great work. Wally Malone
The Read is great! I'm not sure if they're currently in production and very rarely do you see a used one for sale. There was a TB'r who had one in the classifieds and was asking $1100. To me that's over the top. Wally I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make! JBFLA
There was one in the 'Pit for $900 or so awhile back, and I thought about it.Pete Brunelli (fretlessrock) has one. Actually, I think he has Jack's prototype. He raves about it and Jack's work in general. I've heard that Jack isn't exactly cranking out the Purity also. That's a shame... Jusjazzin
Sounds like a kickin' setup. I was wondering where you found that Read Purity pre. They're few and far between on Ebay. And also, is your F-Bass active? And if so, do you ever seem to overpower your Accugrooves?
jeremy c
This thread inspired me to look for Jack Read's website. It's no longer up. I knew he stopped making basses and was concentrating on the preamps. It's pretty unusual for someone to be good at a building basses and also good at building amps. One of these days, I'll call him up and see what's up. I've been to his workshop. He certainly makes great stuff and is a very warm guy. The whole thing is a one-man operation. Wally Malone
I bought the Read from Mark Wright. It took a few years for all the pieces to fall in place. The Stewart is 2100 watts bridged and the Accugrooves can handle it. As much as I like each one of them separately I really like the two combined. Jeremy has close to the same cabinet setup but not sure how much he has used them together. The F Bass is active but can be played in the passive mode. I run the Stewart all the way up and have the master of the preamp about half way up and the input volume up just a touch. Now that I have this setup I can say that yes it is about headroom. _Sweet Willie_
Congrats, Wally. Congrats also to Lady Bo, who can now have full confidence that the bass will be tasty and audible, supporting her vocal and guitar stylings reliably gig after gig! Peace.--SW spreadluv Fanboy? getz out
Congratulations, Wally. Sounds like a big rig! The Stewart is a great amp. I love mine.
Wally Malone
Congrats, Wally. Congrats also to Lady Bo, who can now have full confidence that the bass will be tasty and audible, supporting her vocal and guitar stylings reliably gig after gig! Peace. --SW Willie, she dug it before without the Tri210 added on. The new (to me) added cab will be great for the outdoor festivals we play. I've really gotten to like the FBass and really like playing a five as my go to bass. It's not just the sound I like but also the way it feels. I still haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on your Nordstrand. I think another five tuned E-C for jazz gigs is the only other thing I'm gassing for at the moment although it will be awhile before another purchase in the gear department. This last when happened with a trade that was a win win for both sides. I guess I could always trade some basses, no don't want to do that! ...
Stewart 2.1 Read Purity Preamp Accugroove Tri112 Accugroove Tri210L That is a solid rig. Congrats, man! Be wary of your new power. You could shake the house right off it's foundation. I'll also echo getz76's comment: I love my Stewart power amp.
Wally Malone
Bump, I've been really careful with all this power. The first week a had a bad cable going from my pedal board to the amp and the sounds that came out put a scare into me. I had already played through two of my pedals and when I hit the button on the third one where the chord was coming out to the amp the cracks and sounds were so loud that I thought for sure I had damaged something. With luck all was OK. Wally I have basses to play, places to be and good music to make!
jeremy c
When you get it working, I'm sure I'll be able to hear it from my house. I only live about 60 miles from you, Wally. You're making me feel very inferior....I've got the same speakers and only a 900 watt amp to push them, or a 900 watt and a 400 watt amp if I use both my SWR heads. I can just see myself showing up with a 2400 watt amp for my typical gig...that would be over 4 times the watts of everything else on stage put together including the PA. Free download of my cd!. _Sweet Willie_
I still haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on your Nordstrand. I'll make a point of getting it into your hands whenever you're next in NYC for AFM business. Or, perhaps I'll get it to California with me this summer. It's a delightful instrument. Peace. --SW spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars. Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk.
