What's going on around here?

Is it just me or does it seem that there has been a significant drop in forum activity lately?

What's happening? Mods, is there something going on we don't know about?

I sure hope things pick up soon, maybe we need to start a recruitment drive, have a bake sale or something!

There was a significant drop off in forum activity that occured around the time the Dave passed on. The timing may or may not be a coincidence; I don't know. The LowDown has been a different place since then. And rightly so.

I enjoy interacting with the people here, and miss the fact that many of the regular posters have backed off or dissappeared entirely.

When I get back home from Devon, I'll post some pics of my *TWO* new fish - that'll give us something to enthuse about (I hope), but yes, it *is* a bit quiet here these days.

Howdy guys,

I haven't posted in several months, but I've been lurking some. I haven't been on the computer all that much lately anyway. I'm doing other things right now.

It's a real drag about what happened to Dave though. Just goes to show us how fragile life is.

I'll have some new pics to post in a few weeks. My project bass is under renovation as we speak - er type.

I think things have picked up of late. The loss of Dave and the new Forum software had it's effect but we seem to be coming back. Personally, I really like the technical and collectablity discussions. My wife gives me a hard time about the time I spend on the Forum. She was shocked yesterday when I told her we were discussing food.

My wife talks to her best friend on the phone for at least two hours each evening so that gives me some ammunition to respond back.

I agree with all of the above.

I also feel like I'm running out of bass things to discuss! That can't be right, surely?

+1

I'm not at a point where I have a lot of questions, and I'm either not qualified to be, or bored with, answering questions that routinely come up. For variety, I started hanging at another forum and found that this is still (IMHO) the better of the two forums. Each forum has it's own community and resources, we just have something different here.

I'm tempted to start a thread with an enormous image of my bass (or amp, or pedal, or cable, or strings) and each following post is required to copy my image and include a comment about how nice my bass is. I'll name it "Show me your gear" but the spirit is really for me to show my gear without doing a search for related "show me" threads. Oh what the heck, I'll start a "bought new strings" thread.

I agree with all the above, too. Dave, software, etc. I heard somewhere that there's a natural drop in conversation after 9 minutes and then it picks up again. Maybe we hit the "9 minute" mark.

I know for me personally, I am in a bit of a slump bass wise. My bands are kind of in limbo right now and I haven't really felt like playing much. I'm pretty much set gear wise. I still have my Fender Jazz 24 for sale and I'm debating a PodXT just for fun.

I seem to be much more interested in spending time with Grace right now. She is almost 1 and is doing so many new things every week that I don't want to miss. There'll always be time for bass stuff, but she's only going to be this age for a very short time. I'm still amazed at the effect she has on me.

Jan and Feb were definitely forum-lite.

I found myself discussing when the screw was removed from the centre of the scratchplate from the Fender Jazz.

Then I knew that I had to take it easy. I don't even own an anorak!

I have a feeling that some frequent US posters have left our shores. But I can't name them.

Also, the forum is very much based in USA. We Euros make up for that in the volume of our postings (well Phil does)! Maybe our presence is part of the decline in American interest?

Does that mean you have Anoraknaphobia?

Definitely not! We love you guys (& gals) overseas from the USA. Especially Russian girls who want free basses.

Along with the reasons given above, I think there is a natural fluctuation in posting volume. I feel like we do get in a rut with some topics. And we haven't done anything like recruiting (well, I tell people about this place all the time).

I expect to see things continue to grow. And I'm fine with any ideas to improve our reach. Perhaps it's time for the mods to chat with the BP staff to see about some magazine support.

Again - thanks to all who make this place so inviting!

Well, fellow low-enders, remember -- it's now the dawn of a new era on the LDL.

There is a natural ebb and flow.

There are also only so many times a "regular" can answer a question about how to calculate impedance, whether a P is superior to a J, or whether a bass is a fish or an instrument or both.

And the "search" feature still needs some work. A mod should look into that...

Peace.

Haven't logged in for a long time, been busy with other things, that's all. And I liked the old forum look better. And for the bass content... it can be truly heart-breaking to browse ebay and to find something amazing, and to have no money to buy it.:cry::cry:

This is what I found: lefty 1985-86 ESP bass

Goddamit, I believed I'd never see another bass like mine, but was I wrong! I have a mid-80's lefty ESP bass I bought used back in '87 and my bass and the one on ebay are so similar it's unbelievable. Here's a picture of me with my bass:

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m297/Petethebassman/14733.jpg

Sorry about the fuzzy photo, it's a polaroid snap from 1993.

The differences: mine has a rosewood fingerboard and a regular Precision headstock, the 'bay ESP has a maple neck with tele headstock and neck has a skunk stripe on the back. But my bass is the exact same colour with a w/b/w 3-layer pickguard... wow. I've never experienced GAS like this, it would just be too cool to have a maple-neck twin for my beloved companion for 20 years.

We have been quite the chatty bunch these past few days.

Must be either the new moderator () or 09 passing out free gear!
