revolead
Okay, I know we've been over this subject before, but I have to say this again, anyway: What's with all these people shredding (whether it be metal or blues or jazz or whatever) on YouTube who have such bad tone? I understand that computer mics are pretty lousy, but even still, I've heard a hundred other players who use just as lousy mics (see the Canon camera mic used to record a video of Michael Fuller on the Fulltone Website [TTE demo]) and sound much, much better. Do these people not know that they sound scratchy and use WAY too much gain? Am I the only who is annoyed by the lousy tone players? Shut up and play. Derrick1642607670
I have lousy tone no matter how I play but I dont really have gain problems, I think most "Shredders" realise all you would hear is clunking and every once and a while note without high gain to cover up small mistakes. rgordon83
i am just as annoyed by the "shredding" (most of which is not very good) than i am with the tone! -Ross The Guitar Resource Fender Blues junior Amps
revolead
True. But shredding done in taste, there is nothing wrong with. Some of these guys have decent chops, they just don't know how to make their guitar sound good. Shut up and play.
Warthog
The worse the tone the easier it is to hide mistakes. Ask them to play their shredding on an acoustic or clean electric and see how bad they really are.
revolead
Perhaps, but some of the people seem like they'd be okay. Believe me, I'm not sticking up for all of them, but I can tell a few of them would sound okay if someone would turn down the gain and get them a better guitar. Edit note: It's been a long day. Shut up and play.
Billster
Believe me, I'm not sticking up for all of them, but I can a few of them sounding okay if someone would turn down the gain and get them a better guitar. Would you care to diagram that sentence? No, seriously, I think the issue is a lot of those people haven't played enough to realize that dialing the overdrive back down is going to solve more problems than goin up up up with the gain. When I was in high school, I wanted distortion on top of overdrive on top of distortion on top of loud. I know better now Buy my CD on CD Baby! Bill Hartzell - the website MySpace?!?! revolead
I was somewhat like that in high school. I definitely used way more gain and thought that was what created a good hard rock sound, but now, like you, I know better. It didn't take long for me to realize that most of the great guitar players, metal included, don't use nearly as much gain as everyone thinks. Personally, I blame modern music for convincing me gain is good back then. So, I stopped trying to learn to play the new stuff and now, I more or less stick with non-mainstream genres. Shut up and play.
