SilverDragonSoun
Its that time of year where Cinderella comes out to dance and 63 teams go home with a loss. College Basketball takes front and center stage. Are you interested? Rooting for anyone? IS your bracket still in tact? Who do you think is going to win it all? After a few games my bracket is still perfect. Have Florida winning it all and would like to see Arizona (U Of A) lose in the first round. I love this time of year, I only wish I didn't have to work Begin the day with a friendly voice A companion, unobtrusive - Rush
ProfD
I wondered if anyone would get around to a March Madness thread. My prelim pick is Florida vs Georgetown in the championship game. I wish Gonzaga would have stayed around a little longer. I'm not perfect anymore The Duke/VCU game was a great game. Looking forward to a few games tomorrow. ND vs Winthrop and Creighton and Nevada should be entertaining and I wouldn't be a true Arizona State Sundevil if I didn't root for Purdue to open a can of whoop a$$ on Arizona. Joe Muscara
I'm happy that my undergrad alma mater Maryland made it in after two years of not doing so, though the schedule of their second game on Saturday made me move the band jam. I could have recorded the game, but I try to avoid recording sports events. I don't make predictions on the tournament, I just watch and enjoy. It's fun to see how the ACC does, and to see underdogs and cinderellas take it to the favorites. The first weekend of the tournament is often the best. I saw part of an interview with Coach K last night, and what I saw he was talking about having to lose once in a while to appreciate winning. I suspect after the poor season and post season they've had this year, they're going to come back much stronger and more motivated next year. I think they've done that before. RABid
Eastern Kentucky did better than I thought they would against NC. Duke. I don't hold much hope for University of Kentucky. Never bothered to fill out a bracket. I just cannot get interested this year. This post edited for speling. jackpine
Not too shabby. Went 14-16. The good news for my bracket is that my losses shouldn't carry into the second round. Whether it was Marquette or MSU facing UNC doesn't really matter. And I don't believe VCU is going to make it through Pitt. God only knows these predictions will come back to bite me in the backside. www.relayerstudios.com
meccajay
My dream matchup is of course Florida vs Ohio State for the final, but that's just for entertainment value. stepay
I also picked Florida and Ohio State in the final but with Florida winning (even though I'd LOVE to see Ohio State win it all). Kind of surprised that more "experts" haven't picked Ohio State to even get to the final game let alone to just win it all. They only have three losses, and one of those losses (to Wisconsin) they avenged with two more victories over them later. So, the only other two losses were AT North Carolina and AT Florida. At North Carolina, Greg Oden wasn't playing and at Florida, he wasn't anywhere near full strength. I think Ohio State has a great shot at winning it all. I pick Florida though just because of the experience factor. I sure hope it is Florida vs. Ohio State -- would make for a most entertaining final. SilverDragonSoun
Well the first round is done. Not as many upsets as in years past. Winthrop winning today, while an upset was not a huge surprise as many people picked them to win. My bracket still looks good. Hopefully the same can be said after Sunday's games are completed. I have a lot of teams not expected to make the sweet 16. Winthrop, Butler and Nevada are the ones that I'm worried about. Magpel
Hello! NCAA might be my favorite national championship of them all. As a lifelong Syracuse fan who had really grown to love and believe in this year's team, I hit the tournament with a bit of a jaundiced view, as you can imagine. Who were the teams 'Cuse should have gotten in ahead of? Hmmm, let's start with Stanford, Arkansas, Illinois, and Texas Tech...so how they all making out? Round One was entirely underwhelming. But remember last year, the first four rounds might have been the best ever and the final four flat sucked unless you were a Florida fan, so there is hope. In an admitedly east-centric pick, I've got Georgetown going all the way. But if you haven't seen them much this year, watch out. Forget Hibbert. He's as good a big man as there is in the country, but Jeff Green is the guy to watch on that team--maybe the best all around player in the country. Georgetown has won 17 of their last 18 games. The loss? To Syracuse, by 14 points. Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp

jackpine
I was at an Illinois tournament game around Thanksgiving of this season. They won but were completely underwhelming. I think you're right, mags, that Syracuse should have been in over the Illini. And as an old Chicago boy, that's pretty hard to say. www.relayerstudios.com
ProfD
Looks like Xavier just gave Ohio State a scare. That Conley kid sealed the win. SilverDragonSoun
Good day for me today. All 8 teams in the sweet sixteen but tomorrow I have some tough ones, Nevada and Winthrop. There are some people in my pool who picked Purdue over Florida, Kentucky over Kansas and UNLV over Wisconsin. I thought about UNLV but I didn't have the stones. I always expect someone to make these types of picks but what's so interesting is there's about 10-20 people that have these picks, (just checked 14 people picked the combination of the three I mentioned above) I guess last years run by George Mason has people taking more chances. Some absolute great games today. They were exciting and all close. They all went down to the end and every team had to earn their wins today. I hope tomorrows games are just as entertaining. Both two seeds playing tomorrow were shaky in the first round. Maybe tomorrow the day when we see the big upset. Magpel
Right! There's the tonic! What a Saturday! I'm pretty impartial but for a small anti Big 10 bias, but tell me that the better team won the Ohio St. game yesterday. Un uh. Lotta times a team will turn a pretty fortunate win like that into a tournament run. Louisville was a ridiculous 6 seed -- take a look at the kind of year they had and the way they finished. They were better than a 21-24 ranking. And they paid for it yesterday, drawing too good an opponent too early. I've been murderized in my bracket (of course, in a protest against the Syracuse snub, I had Niagra beating Kansas and Albany making it to the Sweet 16 -- go NY!). So now I'm just sitting on Georgetown. UNC--The Draft Lottery Prep Academy--can beat anybody any time. I hope they don't though. I like legitimate programs. Carolina was able to go 12 deep and that was the difference in the game IMO. Magpel
Today was no yesterday, that's for sure. But for a really good Tennesee-Virginia game. Big 10 -- pffffft ACC -- Pffffft Pac 10 looking good. Big East -- Louisvill ewas the big loss. as I mentioned before, I believe they were screwed in the seeding. We all thought ND was going to do som edamage too. But 2 out of 6, apparently, ain't bad... Why, again, was Syracuse excluded? Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp
