Who ARE these guys?

Actually, last night I saw the "Rolling Stones Rock'n'Roll Circus" from 1969 on my local public TV station. It was cool to see the Who and John Lennon and the Stones in their youth... and a pickup band with Clapton and Lennon and Mitch Mitchell and Keith on bass.

Three great rhythm players... Richards, Lennon, Townshend, for one thing. I guess I appreciate great rhythm players these days, since it took me so many years to be a good one!

I saw why people appreciated Mick Jagger as a performer, for sure! And that the Stones were a very tight band. It was Brian Jones' last public performance with the Stones, and he did a great job on slide guitar in "No Expectations."

During the pickup band set, a violinist came up, obviously a good player and equally obviously not a rock'n'roller, who played into the microphone, and sometimes you could hear him and sometimes not. And then Yoko came up with her trademark screetches, but somehow it seemed to fit, much as I hate to say it! (Not that I'm rushing out to buy Yoko Ono CDs!)

Is that Mick Yaylor in front? Certainly their finest guitarist ever IMHO.

No... and anyway, that's only FOUR people in the pic.

Clearly Bill Wyman. Could possibly be Mick behind the grate. The other two? Who knows. But this is a fact... the Rolling Stones did not exist in this period without Brian jones, and he is a blonde. The picture could be anything from that time period (looks like circa 1962-3-4)... remember that some of the Stones used to go sit in with Alex Korner. (as did many other later famous British mucians) so this could be a shot from that time period, with any gathering of guys who hoped to be a band. (hard to believe that Bill left the Stones in 1993...)

The more I look at this I think that is Mick in middle-left-seated position with Keith next to him. That looks like Bill Wyman down in front. I can't tell who the "conductor" is in the back and I have no idea where the others are but this looks like those 3 to me. It looks like a VERY early pic, they look like teenagers.

No, here's a picture of a very young Mick Jagger (pre stones) and I don't think that guy in the picture is him.

And anyway, the guys in the front and back of the album cover look like nobody that was ever in the Stones.

Looks like the stones to me.

Trucks! Nice to see you again! :)

But nope, it's not the Stones.

For starters, Brian Jones was blond, and there have always been five guys in the Stones (well... until recently, that is) so, no... it's NOT the Stones.

That's the whole point of this thread. :D

Craig: The Stones formed in 1962 and that was the only proper band Jagger has been associated with since then. The shoulder length hair on those guys is a few years removed from 1962.

THESE are the Stones. :)

I've seen this pic before & I'm pretty sure that's a very young *Jack Bruce* playing the URB at the back.

I was flipping channels yesterday and saw them playing "Yer Blues". Excellent!

Then they ruined it by showing Yoko Ono and I flipped to another station.
