Guitar55
Is anyone gigging with a Hot Rod Deluxe or Deville (2x12)? I'd like to know what the situation is, how much clean headroom you get and your general satisfaction with the amp. Thanks, Dennis
NMcGuitar
I gig with the HR Deluxe. It's a great amp for small to medium gigs. I play in a rock & blues band, and the venues we play typically hold a couple hundred people (max), and I rarely ever need to turn the amp above 4 - so there's plenty of clean headroom. I don't use my drive channel that much, since I just prefer the sound of my pedals thru the clean channel when I want OD or distortion. It's definitely an amp worth checking out. otherstar
I'd have to agree. I haven't gigged with mine, but I would easily. I've only played one real gig and I used an early 70's Super Reverb for that. Turn me over, I'm done on this side...
PBBPaul
I have a Blues DeVille (4x10 version) and have played many gigs with it. It's a great amp but very, very loud. And heavy. Lots of clean headroom. Wonderful amp but don't look for power tube distortion out of it unless you want to hurt people. Mine hasn't been out of the studio in quite some time and I often consider selling it until I plug into it. It is a great sounding amp. Bluesape
I've sampled both at jams, and wouldn't hesitate to grab one, likely the 2x12 Deville, but the HR would suffice nicely too. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
Durockrolly
I gig regularly with my DeVille 4X10. A lot of power, plenty of headroom. Consider pedals for overdrive. This little amp kicks ass and WILL get the job done. Fernando If you can't say it in 12 bars... then it can't be said!
Eric VB
I saw something similar (Blues Deville) for sale and did a little research, but that's about it. I realize it's not exactly the same as a Hot Rod, but they are both quite similar. I started losing interest when reviewers said it was "heavy", like PBBPaul has stated above. All the other comments I read are echoed above. Except one guy that suggested changing all the tubes and speakers to improve the sound. (If you change the tubes you have to change the bias, too, which is reportedly possible even on these "fixed bias" combos.) I just googled and it seems the 4x10 weighs slightly less (50 lbs) than the 2x12 (53.5 lbs). I dunno, but that does seem pretty heavy for a 2x combo to me. OTOH, my 4x10 bass cab weighs 65 lbs, so 50 lbs for a 4x10 guitar combo doesn't seem that bad in comparison.
Guitar55
My Mesa Lonestar was 72 lbs for a 1x12! 53.5 lbs seems light in comparison. Thanks for the info but, I've decided not to pursue either of these. To find out why see my post about the Rivera I just bought. :-)

The Bear Jew
My buddy has a tweed 4x10 Deville, which he runs with a THD hotplate because it's so f-ing loud. It's a seriously fantastic-sounding amp. He put casters on it because it's a little heavy, and that makes life easier for gigging. Thank you, drive through. PS The Peavy Classic 50 4x10 tweed combo is a similar type of amp. Only not. \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu

I'd like to know what the situation is, how much clean headroom you get and your general satisfaction with the amp. Thanks, Dennis I have a Hot Rod Deluxe. Our band has only had one gig, but I use it at our jam sessions. I haven't really tested the clean headroom but it does clean up when I play softly. I am satisfied with what i got for the $300 I paid for it. I do find the reverb a bit harsh though - there is a ringing that accompanies high notes that is a bit unpleasant on the clean channel. It might be fixable on the cheap, but I'm also mulling getting the Omega mod done to it: http://www.omegaamps.com/mods2.html
Eric VB
there is a ringing that accompanies high notes that is a bit unpleasant on the clean channel. There was a note in that FAQ I posted a link to about non-flammable foam used around the tubes to prevent ringing. Maybe check that out?

I read that FAQ several times, but missed the bit about the foam. Thanks for pointing that out! I'll look for the foam the next time I see my amp. Well, I must have read it about another amp I was checking out at the same time. Sorry 'bout that!
Jeff Klopmeyer
I have a 4x10 Deville, and gig with it all the time. It's a great amp... other than being RIDICULOUSLY LOUD. I rarely get the Master Volume above 3 with the gain channel engaged. But sure, headroom is not an issue. It's louder than my JCM 800, if that tells you anything. Great amp if you like classic Fender tone with a little more bite.
