Kramer Ferrington III.
What the guys that did "Who's Gonna Drive You Home?" and "You Might Think I'm Crazy?". Ok, I enjoy hearing them on the radio but I'm amazed that you guys would like them so much. Band MySpace My snazzy t-shirt empire
Dr. Ellwood
What a great total over all sound they had! The perfect combination of precision and vocals with still a looseness that made their live show so excellent. Early sinths and one of the most creative keyboard players on the planet!! want a challenge for a band ..try to copy those guys and make it convincing! not a easy task!! friggin love those guys! http://www.thestringnetwork.com
mdrs
Did you ever listen to that LP???? http://www.amazon.com/Cars/dp/B000002GWB/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-8088306-5981740?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1173503409&sr=1-2 "Candy-O" is awesome as well....."Let's Go".....a great pop song. The Cars did intelligent, atmospheric pop, that also had great guitar....Elliot Easton is one of the most overlooked master guitarists out there. Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Justus A. Picker
I never really liked them. It's just a "style" thing that didn't appeal to me. http://www.smokedsalmonband.com/exile/exile1.jpg

Bluesape
I always found them a bit "bubble gummy", but they had good tone and mixing - way beyond the Archies! Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!

jbote
The first album is a classic, but probably a tough act to follow. The albums that followed had an occasional moment, but began to reach the point of diminishing returns fairly rapidly. (IMHO) I do like Elliot Easton alot - especially since he is a fellow lefty. I keep my eyes peeled for a used signature Gretsch (his take on the Duo Jet) on EBay. John
Dr. Ellwood
I have a live concert of theirs done on a German radio station and it's just excellent! That early Moog is so friggin great and he had to be the busiest keyboard player I ever saw LOL!!! http://www.thestringnetwork.com
mdrs
Eliot Easton could really rip on guitar. But, he was ultimately tasteful, and played within the structure of the song, and the band. I hear that he's got a pretty good collection of lefty axes. I've a friend that has quite a collection of lefty's as well. Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Dr. Ellwood
Yeah I think that's it with Elliot..I love guitar players that know how to support like that! Fumblyfingers
Just about every song on The Cars got some serious airplay. I never bought an album but I played a bunch of their stuff in Top 40 bands I was in. I used to sing "Shake It Up" .....LMAO..... in this one band that made everyone sing a song to give the chick singer a break. See, these are the things we remember from our Top 40 days. It is the stuff legends are made of even if it is only ourselves that will take it to the grave LOL. Anyway, I like the way Easton plays, his chugs are dead on and the way he plays in the holes etc etc. These guys were all about the song. I get the impression there is something about Boston bands that they usually seem to rate very high musically. Maybe something to do with Berklee being there, I don't know...but just about every Boston based band that comes out has pretty good musicians in the line-up. Shit I used to really like Aimee Mann's 'Til Tuesday stuff...... okay puke on me now if you will. Anyway, some kudo's also to Roy Thomas Baker who produced this Cars album. mdrs
You might be right....most of the guys from Aerosmith went to Berkley too. Eliot Easton kind of reminds me of Neil Geraldo...Pat Benatar's hubby. He is another major kick ass guitarist, that was mostly happy making the song, or the band solid. Both of those guys are "guitar hero" level players. Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Gruupi
I used to like The Cars and Elliot Easton is a fine guitar player. But I can't really stand most of their music now. The first album is still ok, but the later stuff just doesn't do anything for me anymore. fantasticsound
I liked a few of their songs that had major radio play, but then in 1984 the video for You Might Think changed everything. I couldn't get away from that song and, frankly, I didn't want to. Very inventive video with a song worth listening to. After that a friend suggested we start a band specifically to play a huge arts festival my highschool hosts every 4 years. He had some other buddies who played bass, drums and keys so in no time we were off and running. We ended up playing a mix of pop and other rock. Two of the first songs in our setlist were You Might Think and Just What I Needed. Before that I always thought the Cars were some weird band I had no interest in. (Judging by their look and the look of their core audience.) It wasn't until I got into You Might Think I realized I already liked most of their other music but had no idea who the band was. I've always been impressed with what Elliot Easton said with his sparse guitar parts. Definitely a matter or quality over quantity at a time when many were going off in the opposite direction. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd
