eric
Hey folks, I'm not sure how many folks are in the Toronto area, but I'll be there on business from Friday, 03/09 through Monday, 03/12. I am hopefully attending a Sven Golly bar gig on Friday night, but otherwise have some time on my hands over the weekend. If anyone else wants to together to have a drink and talk shop, let's do it! Or at least attend the Friday night gig. Please let me know. Thanks, Eric

kanker.
Be sure and take in a couple of hours at Zanzibar, the best no cover/no minimum club I've ever been to. Man, I'm a bit jealous. Toronto's one hell of a great town, and Sven's one hell of a nice guy. A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.

delete
Good timing... We are in a deep freeze of -23C overnight temperatures. Weather forcast for this weekend into next is much warmer with spring like temperatures. BTW, daylight savings this weekend. Clocks ahead 1hr Saturday night! Mark Zeger
Have you been to Toronto before, Eric? I love TO. My wife and I used to visit 3-4 times a year. I haven't been there since Jan'06. For a few years recently, there was a high speed ferry between Rochester and Toronto but it was a economically ill fated venture and it no long runs. It's too bad (for us) that the US dollar isn't as strong as it once was. Years ago, the exchange was $1.48 Canadian = $1 US. Last year, it was around $1.13 Canadian + $1 US. If you're near Yorkville (like many tourists), there are a couple of good places for a big weekend breakfast: Flo's Diner on Cumberland near Belair, and Eggstasy on Bay near Bloor. TO has the 3rd largest Chinatown in North America. I've never been to a restaurant there but I've walked past many that look great. Pick up a Roots sweatshirt. They are indestructable and last forever. Canadian Molson is far better than US Molson so drink your fill while you're there.
DanS
Hey Eric, detour 5hrs east and I'll meet you for a pint in Montréal!! and there's infinitely better micro-brewery beer than Molson's. NoahZark
Eric: Have a great time. I've only spent a bit of time in Toronto (always for work), but I love that city. (Probably better in August than March, however!) While you're there, ask Sven to pay us a visit here at KC every now and again. His wit and insights are missed (at least by me). All the best, Noah
Jazzed
Another Toronto guy Unfortunately, this weekend is filled with university-related things to do.
Trill
I have another potential business transaction up there. Maybe I can catch Sven in action if it develops. I was there 4 times before I knew Sven lived and played there. Spent a week in the Skydome and walked the streets . Very multicultured and hip town. gangsu
Hi Eric! I'd so love to get together, and normally I am in TO the week of the 11th. But this year I've decided to stay home. I might've hooked you up with my daughter, but she's just too cute. Say hi to Sven for me! I miss the guy. [got my dates mixed up] "........! Try to make It..REAL! compared to what? ! ! ! eric
Thanks for all the responses! Sorry I will miss jazzed and gangsu I've never been to Toronto, so this should be pretty fun. I'll give Sven everyone's regards from the forum. He's still around, but a little busy these days from what I've heard from him. I'll keep checking in on the forum if there are any last-minute Toronto folks that want to get together. DanS, come on up from Montreal!!!! Floyd Tatum
DanS: ouch! spoken like a true Montrealer! Hey, Eric, if you feel like it, drop by the Drake Hotel Lounge on Friday evening - I'll be playing a little jazzy lounge gig there from 7:30 to 9:45 with a sax player and bass player. It would be good to meet you. The Drake Hotel is at 1150 Queen St. W. (at Beaconsfield Ave, 3 bl E of Dufferin) As for other hanging out, I probably can't this time around, although I'd like to, but just got too much stuff going on. eric
One final question for the Toronto people...are there any good music stores I should visit? Thanks, Eric
Floyd Tatum
For keyboards: - Long & McQuade on Bloor St. West, near Ossington - large keyboard department; - Steve's Music on Queen St. W near Spadina - pretty big kbd dept; - Songbird music on Queen St. W (can't remember the cross street, it's W of Bathurst, I think...), they have all vintage and used stuff. - Then there's Saved By Technology, they are a Mac-centric kind of store, they also sell keyboards and stuff, I think - I haven't been there for years, so I'm not sure what they do now. If you want to see real pianos, that's a different story.
eric
Thanks Floyd Tatum! I would love to come see you play at the Drake Hotel, but not sure my schedule permits today. I have a business dinner that is going in a different direction, but if I get out in time, then I can give it a try. I'll be at the Peel Pub later in the evening. Floyd Tatum
Eric, which Peel Pub you going to? The one on King St, W of University(aka York)? Is so, and you're in that area between about 5 and 8, there's a restaurant/bar called Quotes that's nearby (it's in the same block, I think). There's a good jazz group plays there Fridays from about 5:30 to 8 - just a suggestion! Also, check your PM - I just sent you a PM Richard
