Modeling and Headphones

Recommended Posts

This is a two part question... I model through my putor using a Line6 Toneport interface... Gearbox is the program I use to build amps and cabinets... They have alot of presets but most sound like crap...Do any of you use this and if so do you have any suggestions for tones. Or do you recommend another modeler. I play my strat mostly and I can get some good clean sounds but I'm having trouble with a clean sustain...

Second part is I need to get some new headphones. I know you can spend mega money on a pair but I'd like to keep it under $200 ... Any suggestions on a pair?

Thanks all,

Woof

The Sony MDR-7506 are widely used...but I always found them somewhat on the harsh side.

If you want great recording/listening headphones...try a pair of the Fostex T50RP...these are Fostex's top of the line (they have a few other good models)

At about $100...they can't be beat for sound quality, and will blow away most of the cometition in that price range...and IMO...some costing 2-3 times as much.

They are well balanced and very smooth from one end of the frequancy spectrum to the other.

If you need good recording headphones w/isolation...the old Koss Pro4AA are still my favorites.

AKG makes nice headphones. I use the K 240.

As for modelers, I've never cared for that stuff. Native Instruments has a set called "Guitar Combos" which is a "lite" version of their Guitar Rig software. I understand that Combos is based on the Guitar Rig 1 algorithms, so it's not the latest and greatest since they came out with Guitar Rig 2. Combos is currently selling for only $50, so maybe that's an option to explore, even though it's probably near the end of it's life cycle as a supported product.

I've found this to be the case as well, which is why they're preferred by live engineers. Most live engineers use headphones strictly for isolating an input or output to hear the overall content while a PA is filling the entire room with sound. A pair of folding headphones that emphasize the midrange more than extreme highs and lows is exactly what the doctor ordered. ;)

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman

Right NEIL, that's EXACTLY where I got the recommendation..from our sound guy LOL! but I do really like them ...I had a set of Pro IVaa's and I like the Sony better, the Koss just sound too soft and unrealistic to me by comparison.

Well... I ordered a pair of Fostex T50RP Studio Headphones as perscribed by Miro... They were on sale at Zzsounds for 79 bucks. Sam Ash wanted 99 bucks so I saved 20 bones... Enough for some new strings... Thanks all...
