Hello, I am extremely new to this forum and only about two days newer to playing guitar. I was led here by a google search which picked up on a forum for older beginners which was of interest to me, but for the life of me now I'm registered I can't find it. Any ideas?

I don't think there is a forum specifically for Noobies, and the reason being, if there were only Noobies there, who would answer the questions? :)

So you could hang here, and ask some questions, and if you're a patient, good natured person, and your questions aren't too uninformed, or ridiculous, I think you might get some help.

Sorry, I worded that badly. I meant to say there was a thread (not forum, d'oh!) about people who had started playing late® in life, ie: over 25. I am 35 and am only now trying to learn so it was interesting for me how others who left it late® in life had fared.

We have all kinds of people here. I'm sure you'll learn quite a bit here.

Hey Dazz,

I joined this board a couple of days ago, and heve NEVER found a nicer group of people more willing to help - and some of my questions have been a bit lame, I think.

I'm 50-cough,cough something, and just coming back to playing after, well, since the whole high school garage/prom gig kind of thing.

These guys are great, and as another very new member, let me say welcome aboard!

Dave

I put the guitar down for 20 years and now I'm back playing again...I can honestly say these 'Gentlemen' in here have helped me tremendously... Stick around and continue to learn... I'm still here although I don't have that many posts...(and I've asked some dumb-ass questions)

Hey, welcome and WELCOME (to the forum and guitar). Like yourself, I started playing guitar later in life. A good friend handed me an Epiphone acoustic when I was 19. The action was so bad, that all I played was EAD and GCD (I couldn't even squeak out a B minor). So...for the next ten years thats all I did. Learn 3 chord songs and strum along since I couldn't sing. Funny enough I was so content strumming, that I figured it was about time to take it a step further.

Take a few bits of advice from me. First, keep on keeping on. Persistence is key. Especially as you will your fingers to make certain chords (and they don't move the directions you intended). It's slow going in the beginning, but things pick up as you become more skilled. Secondly, get guitar lessons from a close friend or shop. Books and DVD's can help, but nothing beats getting feedback from another guitarist. Finally, never get frustrated by the skills (or equipment) you think you should have. Always be appreciative what you do have.

Oh, and enjoy this forum! People are very friendly here and don't snub or troll like other forums.

Welcome aboard!

I can't say I started later in life (I first picked up a guitar at age 3), but I do still feel like a beginner sometimes - there are always new things to learn. And I'm almost 43 now. The folks here will certainly be a help to you.

Just remember the most important thing: Always play because you enjoy it. It's not about "better", "faster", "more knowledgable", or whatever else; it's about loving to play whatever it is you are playing. :)

May all your thoughts be random!
