t-noah
Does any one have any advice/strong feelings about a good junior 3/4-size electric guitar I could get my soon to be 8 y/o son. He wants to play yet I'm not sure he will take to guitar and stick w/ it. So I'm of course wanting to get him a quality instrument, one that he'll want to play, but my wife says to rent one or buy something less than $100, see if he takes an interest in it, then get nicer one later. Then I would have to consider an amp. He could use my setup but I'd rather him have something of his own. Amps are a whole nother issue and can make all the difference. Again, the cost issue. Any advice on a headset-type Rockman or Pandora's box (?) - something he could practice on and get some fun tones out of? I've tried the 3/4 Squire, just OK...and have been searching on-line for other options. I'm kind of leaning toward a Fernades Nomad Delux travel guitar w/ the 22 fret (24" scale) neck, and built in processor/FX unit by digitech. I think that would be alot of fun to learn on. AND Dad would even like it for himself, so it wouldn't be a waste of $$ if my son doesn't really take to it. But it's also close to $500 which is getting up there. But then no amp would be needed. What do you guys think I should do? Any and all advice/experiences would be helpful. thx, t-noah Big Back McGee
mdrs
How about starting him on an acoustic? I started my boys on a Baby Taylor, which we all still use. It's a great little guitar, and easy to travel with. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Taylor-Baby-Taylor-Dreadnought-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=514966 Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Guitarzan
my son has a 22 inch scale mini bodied Jay Turser LP. Jay Turser also makes a mini strat type and the prices are great. the mini LP was 30 bucks cheaper than a mini fender strat and the taxes were included so i saved more. imho it is built better as well. i can post a pic later if you want. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
t-noah
Yeah, that's how I started. But I was quite a bit older and determined to learn. I thought an electric would be easier to play and learn on, with some cool rock tones to keep a young mind's interest. I'm open to all suggestions. Thx! Big Red 67
I have a really cheap Lotus strat and believe it or not,... it sounds pretty damn good. You could afford to buy one of each. Coustic and electric! Big Red's Ride Blog
