Rocky McDougall
Well, my first Volkswagen, I bought new in Germany in 1958. I put a supercharger on it and it would run 95mph, fuel would last about 10 hours. They have made some inprovements but mine cost $1,200.00. My VW was better when you figure MPH vs. Cost. Don't get me wrong, I would trade it for a Veyron. Rocky Quote "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb, voting on what to eat for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb, contesting the vote." Jonathan So you obviously haven't tried Aussie pies. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing20.gif G. I was wondering if Aussie pie was slang for something else so I did a little research. According to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) the meats allowed in a meat pie are beef, buffalo, camel, cattle, deer, goat, hare, pig, poultry, rabbit and sheep. http://www.cartoonstore.net/cartoons/5025.jpg "Especially Rabbits!" Kangaroo meat, a leaner alternative, is also sometimes used. It may include snouts, ears, tongue roots, tendons and blood vessels. Only offal (such as brain, heart, kidney, liver, tongue, tripe) must be specified on the label. Wild animals ("slaughtered ... in the wild state") may not be used. Mmmm... nothing says good eatin' like offal! Tasty though I'm sure the Aussie pies are, I think I'll stick to good old American Pie. Quote Push the button Frank. But see here, and look in 'commercials' on the rhs, then the bottom left (restaurant.mpg) - very 'Aussie'. (Edit to add - now that was a nostalgic trip for me - the bus one in particular - the song is almost our national anthem, up there with 'Skippy the Bush Kangaroo') http://www.fourntwenty.com.au/ and here for a more posh offering: http://www.boscastle.com.au/ btw the dead horse on top is pretty much compulsory. Phil W
I posted this link in one of the other threads but I doubt amny will see it and it's a cool link - so . . . Santana live in Ghana 1971! This gig had a huge cultural influence bringing that Afro-Latino-Rock sound back to the source and influencing a whole generation of African musicians (as did James Brown). It's fascinating to me to listen to how the sounds of the African diaspora fed back to and influenced contemporary African music. I remember Youssou Ndour talking about the massive influence of Rumba on those guys and it was a blast all the years I played African music to be able to dig into funk, reggae, Afro-Cuban and rock influenced grooves.
