Nancy Wilson covers Misty Mountain Hop

You can't ignore this thread no way. Nancy Wilson. Led Zeppelin. What a draw.

I turned on the TV last night, tuned to PBS and I caught the last 5 mins. of Heart on PBS Soundstage. I was mad that I did not tune in sooner.

I've always admired Nancy, not just because she is beautiful, but because she plays guitar. In my book, she's a great player. She never exploited being a woman, she didn't need to.

Any hoo. They were closing thier set with Led Zeppelins Misty Mountain Hop. And I think it was a phenominal job. What I liked about it, they were not playing the song as Heart, they just seemed like a band chilling out with a venerated cover. They never once tried to upstage the song. Anne was definately paying homage to Robert Plant and rightly so. Nancy was absolutely paying homage to Jimmy Page.

It may not have been a drop dead stellar performance, my wife didn't think so. I know she could care less about Led Zeppelin or Heart. What was great about the performance was that they were comfortable, relaxed (so it seemed), and you could tell they were having fun playing that song.

I almost thought about buying the DVD, but I want to catch the rest of the show. The set list looked awesome anyway.

P.S. Nancy, your playing influenced me very early on. One of the first songs I learned was your intro to Crazy on You. Ummm, don't tell my wife, but I still have a crush on you.

The Heart ladies have always been HUGE Zep fans. They do an amazing cover of "The Battle Of Evermore" as well, and a good bit of their early stuff has a very decided Zeppy sound and feel.

The best part? When they cover Zeppelin, they can do all of Plant's harmonies dead on as a duo.

Nancy rocks

I've got the DVD of them live in Seattle and they do a kickin job. They play Battle of Evermore, which I had my jaw dropped pretty much the whole time. They also play rock and roll and whole lotta love.

If you read the liner notes from the Heart Greatest Hits / Live, half of which is studio cuts and half live, you can read about their love of Led Zep. That's the album with their cover of Rock & Roll. For years I copped their use of revelie in harmonics at the end of the solo. :thu:

Oh, I forgot to mention I've been a huge Nancy Wilson fan for 20 years thanks to Silver Wheels and the intro to Crazy On You. I just had to learn the latter on acoustic! Loved seeing them in 1986, even if it was in support of the first "pop" Heart album. ;) Missed my chance for free tix to a small concert of Nancy at Belmont Univ. a few years ago. :(

In the book, Hammer of the Gods, there is a few references to the Wilson girls being frequent visitors to Zeps hotel when Zep was in Seattle.

There ae a couple of other books about Zep that mention Heart.

Nancy made a comment in an interview years ago that she and her sister could be considered Led Zep groupies. When prodded for more details, she told the interviewer to use his imagination but never denied any of the stories.

A lot of rumors about them with Plant and Page but there is enough evidence to back them up. A lot of local crew members have backed up some of the stories with more details but you have to take that with a grain of salt.
