bluenote420
i've been listening to a lot of reggae stuff lately, mostly collections of more obsure bands. One of the tracks I was listening to had a great sound to it, so I looked up the instruments involved, and the solo was played by something called a "unity horn". Does anyone know what that would be. Also, what scales to reggae guitarists usually use to solo? Thanks!
MILLO
1st question: no clue 2nd: pentatonic scales... both Major and minor (depending on the key), w/ blue notes or without. Also, just plain Major and minor scales, as well as the Dorian and Mixolydian modes. Guitar55
Yep, I would say major pentatonic, mostly. Listen to (NJ native)Al Anderson's great work on Bob Marley and The Wailers "Live!"
Chad Thorne
I did a search on Yahoo: Unity Horn I'm guessing that's not it. It's probably an instrument invented by a guy while smoking really big joints...
Kramer Ferrington III.
Well, if there's no unusual sounds on the track, maybe it's just a way of describing the instrument's role? I'm thinking of Eno's pop records ("Another Green World", "Before & After Science" and all those). The instrument listings are full of obscure things such as "snake guitar", etc. Which turns out to be just a normal treated guitar playing a very sineous lead line.
