cwshadows Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 This is a clue as to my advanced years; The first car stereo I ever put in my car, was a 4 track tape deck, (yes, 4 track, before 8 track). I installed it into a 1956 Ford Crown Victoria, that came with a stock AM radio with tubes (no transistors). The car came with 1 speaker in the center of the dash (I wired it to the left channel) and 1 speaker in the center of the back deck (I wired it to the right channel). When I put in a tape the first time; the most bazaar squeaking, squealing, scratching, sounds erupted from the speakers. I quickly yanked the tape believing that I had seriously messed up the installation. I rechecked my connections everything was fine. Trying again I discovered that I had started in the middle of Jimi's "Are You Experienced?" tape. That was the first time I had ever heard a Wa-wa pedal and all of Jimi's psychedelic experimentations! That system seems positively archaic now, but at that time it was as slick as greased owl snot. As far as I know only one other person in our town had a tape deck in their car at that time. See I told you I was old.

Avenged Sevenfold is on the cover. They're ok to me, a bit too radio friendly for my tastes (not necessarily a bad thing), but they play some good songs. Some folks may dislike their heavily tattooed/pierced appearance, but at least they know how to play and craft decent songs. If you think AS aren't good for metal, check out Dragonforce . Every goddamn song has a shredding solo; 99.9% of the time, it's done in a major scale, and only in a major scale. At least AS has some variety in their music, thanks to their varied influences, considering their style. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
