mdrs Posted August 27, 2006 Author Posted August 27, 2006 Dicky Betts is INCREDIBLE on this one!! Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Playing so free, like a breath rippling by." http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=574296 http://www.myspace.com/imdrs
Big Red 67 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Dicky and Duane had a mind together. Greg's reference to Buddism with the "climb off the hilltop" is really cool if yo ask me. Big Red's Ride Blog
mdrs Posted August 27, 2006 Author Posted August 27, 2006 the original line up of the Allman Bros was beyond compare. The rhythm section....drums and bass, are still perhaps my favorite. This band was Miles meets blues rock. But really the music surpassed anything I've seen....well, except perhaps Mozart..... I was lucky.....as a young kid who was teaching himself to play without lessions (bad choice....I should have had lessions), to have had The Allmans, and Duane as teachers to copy, I was lucky...... I'm thinkin the "Crossroads" was, in fact, a crowded place......Robert Johnson, Buddy Hollie, Duane, Stevie, ......Damn that Devil! I wonder if he'd talk to me................ antimatter Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 That's classic stuff. I've seen several versions of the Allmans over the years, but nothing really compares to that lineup.
moeblues04 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Yeah...that band really had it all going on. The guitars....rhythmn section....Greg's vocals. I think the Fillmore East album remains the greatest live album ever recorded. "We're just musician's.....here to thin the thickness of your skin." - Max Webster
