Ol Boy Rivers
Howdy yall, Ol'boy here. Things are picking up around, so i won't be on for a while. But, I FINNALLY got my Epi head and i have to say im VERY impressed. Stocked with SovtekEL84 and Sovtek12AX7LP, However i have a small Army of tubes on the way. After playing with'er some, I figure she has very good headroom with singlecoils, Letting you hit around 3'oclock before you start to breakup, At which point the volume stops getting higher as well. 112 Cabby with a Celestion gives me awsome lows, However it does lack a little bit of treble. Distortion is CREAMY And reminds me of early vox/marshall sounds, Smooth as a Baby. ( This is all with the standered Sovtek and my strat. ) So, I decided to plug up a pedal, And things got nasty. Volume doubled, Treble picked up, And the amp dirtied NASTY! I think it could easily push heavy rock and thats just with my strat. On low Distorted sounds its beatiful, GREAT harmonic richness, beautiful high tones. (When i get my tubes in ill do a return ) Now, the build. Overall, Its a sturdy little amp. Ground up, Youve got your standered Rubber feet, But they're skinny. The Backplate is secured by some 7 screws, And the face is held on by six. The Piping is on nice and tight by staples. The actual Cabby is extremly sound. ( FYI FOR TUBE SWAPPERS, Anyone who has tried to swap tubes in this thing from the back knows its a little bit of a hassle. My advice is to take of the front faceplate screws, and just pull the frontlplate off when you need to. It stays in just fine without the screws, Leave the backplate on. ) The amp chassis is just as wel built. Punched steel, Bent. The power Tranny is held on by four bolts, And the Output tranny by two. ( Odd, The Powertranny has to untapped wires. Two Blues, One black. Both blues are 250' the Black is 0 ) The Tubesockets are mounted on the actual PVP board, Becarful and shake the tubes loose neatly. The EL84 is held by a spring retainer, The 12AX7 by your standerd tubeshield. All of the screws for the Chasses are Gooped to make sure they dont Rattle loose. Around the whole chassis in the Cabby is Shielding, So I think that might help a little bit on White noise. In the Chassis youve got your 4 8 and 16 outputs, Ive only had a chance to use the 8. To top it off, The Four beefy bolts and Secure the chassis to the cabby, and plastic caps on top of those. All and all, Awsome Amp. Im building myself a custom Cabby for it so i can do the 212' in the same box. Keep posted, Im sure ill have some neat stuff on here soon. ( BTW, The tubes that are coming in are 12AX7 High gain JJ, 12AX7 EI elite, 12AX7 Electro harmonix, 12AU7 EI Elite, 12AU7 Electro harmonix, 12AT7 Electroharmonix, EL84 EI Elite, EL84 Mullard. Alot of money, But i had a huge paycheck and went wild. ) Never trouble trouble till' trouble troubles you.
