I've watched people's grades and grammar skills suffer. And I've watched my friends try to find love on these types of sites.I agree that social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook offer little to no good for society, but I sincerely doubt they're doing any harm either. You say student's grades and grammar skills are suffering? Based on what evidence? Your personal experiences after four years of college at one school in Colorado? How far could student's grammar skills fall, when the average student had piss-poor grammar skills 10-15 years ago? From piss-poor to F*CKING piss-poor? It seems to me that you're being overly dramatic. Sure, these websites are a waste of time, but undergraduate students have ALWAYS found a way to waste time at a college. Actually, he's right. Student's spelling and grammar, have suffered greatly, because of the internet. Here is one, of the hundreds of articles, that have been written on the subject. Click Here. Thank you for sharing that AString. I had seen the article before, but I wasn't sure where to go for it now. Anyway, as a journalism and writing major, I notice these trends firsthand. The big problem with any sort of AOL Instant Msg. or MySpace or anyt program is that people's tying skills get better while their grammar and writing ability gets worse. While I'm not advocating getting rid of something based on that, I see it more as a reflection of the poor educational system most Americans are forced into, only to have already bad skills reinforced by their peers across the nation. MySpace may not be the only source of problems, but it certainly is not the cure and there are multiple studies (including some by several professors) that state the same sort of argument. Shut up and play.

Thats the second or third time I have seen you trying to do that! This is actually the second time I've asked people not to carry over arguments from other threads to others. I'm sure you remember that because it was you last time. cut it out and just do your own threads that relate the subject at hand..wait a minute NOW I sound like you...Sound like me? I do say other things other than requesting people stop carrying their internet grudges into new threads. And focusing on relating to the subject at hand. but don't try to run this forum, there are people that do that and it's NOT you. You're right. If the mods have a problem with what I said to you and Hardtail, they'll ask me to stop.
Dr. Ellwood Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 They are not arguments they are heated discussions that adults have in everything, and if somehow they relate to the subject through regular dialogue there is nothing wrong with carrying on a common idea or concept. http://www.thestringnetwork.com
Hardtail Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Hey Ricardo or Tattoo or whoever you are: the post that I put out that got you all in a huffy, I was just making a joke so stop crying and grow a pair.
Ricardo. Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 In the hopes of salvaging the remains of revolead's thread and not having it closed: okay. I don't know what you mean by Tattoo, and the phrase 'stop crying and grow a pair' doesn't exactly make me feel like playing nice, but I'm not inciting anything new.

A String Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Tensions seem a bit high between several of the members. Might I suggest a few PMs? This isn't directed at anyone in particular (I've noticed tension between several different members, through several different posts), but if you feel there is a problem, PM the person you are having a problem with and try to sort it out. Sometimes it's a simple misunderstanding. Other times, someone took offence to a post and it took a few posts for the anger to come out. The offender has no idea why the other person is upset, and soon, you have a war going on. You may not agree on things, but at least you may get to a point where you can "agree to disagree". We are all intelligent, thoughtful people here. But we are just people. Sometimes lines get crossed, when we really didn't mean for them to get crossed and it's hard to turn back. Let's try to keep that in mind. Craig Stringnetwork on Facebook String Network Forum My Music

King Kamehameha Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Yeah, definitely. Squ Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I will say: YES. MySpace is a huge type waster and life eater, and a lot of it is so terribly stupid. But also: YES: I did make a contact through MySpace that got my band a gig at CBGB & OMFUG, so I can't complain TOO much. It is a useful tool when used correctly. Red Red Rockit
