I was listenting to the some " gothic " or " death " metal or whatever you want to call it while being bored as i had not been in a very long time, while this happened it hit me, the birth of " dark " metal. i came up with a story that looks kinda like this:

THIS has NOTHIGN to do with the real birth of this music, its just a dramatisation i came up with out of boredom. read it, you might find it amusing just like i do. if you dont, well too bad.

in case you know nothing on this music, many of its roots are based on classical music and operas (you know, carmina burana style of things.) keep in mind that by " classical " it does not have to mean stuff like bethoveen or Mozart and the rest.

now, Picture this in a tone of voice like Leo's From that 70's show. (in case that again, you dont know who he is. stoned 70's hippie.)

Dude 1 : Yo, Dude 2, lets get stoned man!

Dude 2: You, Dude 1, Fire that Shit up man!

Dude 1 : Oh Man, This is the good stuff man! this is life.

Dude 2 : Oh man, i feel like jamming, did you bring your guitar dude? i have mine right here man

Dude 1 : Bring my guitar? How can i get stoned without my lady friend man, you suck man, how could u ever think that dude.

Dude 2 : Chill yo, man, i was joking man thing, lets rip out some heavy metal man.

Dude 1 : Oh Man, I Wanted Something More Classic Man

Dude 2 : Did All the dope get to you so fast dude? you cant play classic on an electric!

Dude 1 : why not man? dude, lets play it with distortion man!

Dude 2: Go to hell man, if you do classic i do opera style singing, phantom of the opera opera style man dude thing

Dude 1: Opera!? yo, now your thinking dude,i knew you were as high as me! but we cant do that without a piano man!

Dude 2: Or a violin man! you know, like that anne rice novel, Interview with the vampire shit man, they totally played violin man!

Dude 1: Lets sing about them! man, vampires, and we get to say satan lots, and we get to say hell !!!

Dude 2: yea man, you nailed it man, yo man, lets play hyper fast man, lets blow some fucking eardrums out of how fast we play man,

Dude 1: Yea man, solos so fast and so intense man that your brain will ask your ears if they are ok man and they gotta be ages long man

Dude 1: yea man, like, bethoveen on steroids man, on DOUBLE STEROIDS DUDE!

Dude 2: Bethoven and the phantom of the opera man on dope AND steroids man! imagine that man! and guitars man! yea, guitars!

Dude 2: And we will get chicks to sing while we scream our brains out man fuck yea man, lets do this shit man!

Dude 1: Ya yo, we can like, man, like dress in black and shit man, we will like sing on how angry we are man, like how we are satan's friends man

Dude 2: Yea man, it will be like, scary shit man, dark shit man, and we can like, kill anything thats emo man and wear a lot of makeup man, yea man.

cheers!

That sounds like how Black Sabbath was born. I dunno if they were stoned, but I know Tommy Iommi reportedly said "Innit it weird man that people pay money to see a movie that scares the shit out of them? Sounds remarkably like this story :o

Just to clarify a bit here...Goth is a subculture named after an 18th century Germanic tribe, and was originally born of the early punk and death rock scene of the 70's, and evolved to be associated with "Death" Metal, which also produced the Grindcore and Metalcore evolutions, but, was born of the "Black" Metal evolution, which was born of the "Thrash" Metal evolution, which was born of the "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" evolution, which was born of the "Dark" Metal evolution, which basically started it all.

Along the way, between the "NWOBHM" and "Thrash" Metal evolutions, "Progressive" Metal and "Power" Metal both evolved in the early 80's.

The evolution of "Nu-Metal" and "Hair" Metal occurred during the 80's and 90's as a marketable form of metal.

I don't ever remember hearing about the distinct evolution of "Goth" Metal...as it is so often wrongly labeled. Presently, Goth is now more associated with "Industrial" Metal, and, the resurging "Glam-Punk" scene.

So, to review...Goth is a 30 year old subculture that has attached itself to Punk Rock, and then Metal, and now Punk Rock again.

That my friends is the history of Goth and Metal as I have witnessed them over the past 35 years.

Sorry if I stepped on your thread, Braxat. I'll shut up now.

My first experience w/ "black metal" was Venom. That was my last, too. :D

I preferred bands like Death (RIP Chuck Schuldiner), etc...
