Rufio90210 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Ok, My dad said 300 quid maximum, is there a valve amp out there thats around that price range and suitable to gig with,? HAHAH im a sandwich
Junior 1 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I don't know what 300 quid equates to in dollars, but you could get yourself an Epiphone Valve Junior for $140 dollars and mic it! Get the head version for $100 dollars and get whatever cab you want! What is a quid anyway?
Guitarzan Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 a squid without the S http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
LPCustom Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 A "quid" is a British Pound. Good steer on the Epiphone Valve Junior. Great little amp. I prefer the head with a real cabinet instead of that little 8 inch speaker. Born on the Bayou
Rufio90210 Posted July 26, 2006 Author Posted July 26, 2006 i need one capable of gigging tho, ill be happy to look for second hand ones HAHAH im a sandwich
Ol Boy Rivers Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I got to agree with everyone else. Youve got 300, SO buy the VJ and then use the rest of your money on a good 212 or something. I think the amppeg cabbys are a little over 200, Though. ANOTHER THOUGHT: Buy the VJ combo, Then buy a nice speaker for it. You might have a little buzz and it wont be as sweet as the head, But it should still sound pretty awsome. Good luck with it man! Never trouble trouble till' trouble troubles you.
Mudcat Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Not sure what the used market is in England on Peavey gear but you might be able to find a Classic 30 in that range (used). This will get you 30 valve watts, a 12 inch speaker, reverb and an EQ section. While the Epi Valve Junior is a great amp, it doe not offer reverb or EQ and it is very low wattage (5 watts??). These are features you may want to consider. Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. Rock hard. Eat hard. Sleep hard. Grow big. Wear glasses if you need 'em."-The Webb Wilder Credo-
Pappy P Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 $700 U.S. get you the Fender Hotrod Deluxe (new). About $500 Used. 40 Watts, 12 Speaker, 3 Channels, Reverb. From what I hear and in my experience, cheap amps aren't worth what you pay for them. Get some more money, or save a little longer and get a good amp. www.birdblues.com My Stuff On Sound Click
The Geoff Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Try: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IMG-STAGELINE-GAT-1250-ALL-VALVE-GUITAR-COMBO-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ280008730676QQihZ018QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWD4VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I don't know anything about that one above. But I can tell you the Laney's pretty good: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Laney-LC30-Valve-Combo-Awesome_W0QQitemZ110012636630QQihZ001QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWD4VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Remember, a 30W valve amp is 'way louder than a 50W SS amp. I have a pal who regularly does jams with a Laney 15. Bluesape Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Laneys are very underrated - great amps! Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
BadLife Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 If you want to gig you need something a little bigger than the Valve Jr. I have the head and it's pretty loud but for gigs I think 50 watt is about the least you should have depending on the type of music you play. If it's hard rock like black sabbath or harder you really need 100 watts. If it's just rock and roll 30 watts will do for most gigs. Large gigs you need to move some air. The blues you can get by with something smaller like a nice 30 watt combo. I have a 20 watt head and I would not want to play a gig with it. That's what the 100 watt Marshall half stack is for, although that's way more than 300 quid
HedZeppelin Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I have a Peavey ValveKing 112, and I like it alot. 2 6L6GC power tubes, 3-12AX7 preamp tubes.50 watts. Seperate EQ for clean and gain channels. Texture control which lessens power tube output so that you can get overdrive at lower volumes. I can't put the volume higher than 1 in the house while using the gain channel, or it's too loud. Paid $399 U.S. The Song Remains The Same
Junior 1 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Epiphone has a new tube amp called the Blues Custom. 15/30 tube watts with I think 2 12's. New here in the states for $500. Assembled in China!!!
