Big Red 67 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Should I sell my slant ampeg and put greenbacks in my crate bottom (flat) cab? Big Red's Ride Blog
mdrs Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 which Greenbacks? Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Playing so free, like a breath rippling by." http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=574296 http://www.myspace.com/imdrs
Big Red 67 Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 Celestions (sp). The cab sounds really good kinda got a chunk to it. The bassman sound real chucky through it! An I don't normally like "slant" cabs! Big Red's Ride Blog
Guitarzan Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 what is in the crate? so what do you guys think of the greenbacks? i have only heard them in a jcm800 50 watt combo and they seemed to fart a bit. but the vintage 30's in my DG100 bark and punch without gas. even when being driven by the Traynor 50 watt tube head the V30's take it. is that a common thing for greenbacks? to be farty? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
Big Red 67 Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 75 watt Celestions. Kinda metal for me. Still got a good deal on that one too! Big Red's Ride Blog
Guitarzan Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 how are the greenbacks in the closed back cab, that must be the difference. the combo i heard was open back. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
Big Red 67 Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 ? That is why I asked! Big Red's Ride Blog
Guitarzan Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 aren't both of those closed back? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
mdrs Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I've had some experience with Celestion lately. I have several Marshall 4x12 cabs I've been comparing. My favorite sound is the 1960 TV, which is slightly larger than other Marshall 4x12's, and has the Celestion G-12M's in it' http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Celestion-G12M25-Greenback-12-Speaker?sku=660250 The 1960 V has Celestion G-12 Vintage 75's, and is just about equal to the 1960 TV..... I have a 15 yo 1960B, and I swapped out the factory speakers (G-12T-75's) for two each of; G-12M Heritage (still made in the original Celestion factory) http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Celestion-G12M-Heritage-Guitar-Speaker?sku=660258 And two G-12H Heritage http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Celestion-G12H-Heritage-Guitar-Speaker?sku=660259 I was disapointed in the "top of the line" heritage speakers. The G-12M's in my 1960 TV, and the G-12 Vintage 75's in my 1060V sound better than the fancy, pricy Heritage speakers. Don Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. mdrs Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 The 1960 TV is warm and a tad mellower....more Duane Allman-ish. The 1960V is a bit more of a kick ass, ripper....if that makes sense!
