Mincer Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I read the Rainsong review, and while it was good, there are no dealers around me (Tampa area). Anyone have one? Thoughts? I currently use an Adamas, which I like- but it is rather uncomfortable to play. I like the idea of a graphite guitar, and I don't really want it to sound like a wood guitar- I am looking for lots of lows and highs, little mids- pianoish, I guess. Great separation between all frequencies, not so much a blend. Oh, btw, thats me in the last Spotlight column (Aug)..woohoo!!! My guitars, loops & devices A Gibson/Steinberger artist
Bluesape Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I've read great things about 'em, but thassall! Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
revolead Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 My friend's father has two of 'em: a six-string guitar and a twelve string. He loves 'em and he let me try one of his once. It sounded breathtaking, however, I could still feel that woody tone missing from it. It is what it is. If you like the tone, then it's next to perfect. Well playing as well. If you're a sucker for a Martin or a Taylor though, you won't be disappointed, but you won't be fulfilled. Shut up and play.
picker Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I've played about three of them in the last 4-5 years, and two of them were great, one of the sucked big. The acoustic Rainsong that sounded good to me had a body pretty much like a Gibson J-200. THAT was a killer soudning acoustic. The other acooustic model I played was smaller bodoed with a cutaway, and I did NOT like anything about the sound. I wll say both of them played very well. I also played a two humbucker electric model similar in size and shape to a Gibson ES-175, but with no sound holes, if I remember correctly. It was a pretty neat jazz box. Sounded really good, nice, round tone out of the neck pickup, a bright but warm sounding bridge pickup, and the middle position was clucky and Gretch-ish. I don't recall any model numbers on any of them, but the jumbo model was for sale used in a store recently, for about $500. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Bluesape Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 That price should be a steal. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
Scott Fraser Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 << the jumbo model was for sale used in a store recently, for about $500.>> List is around $3,000 for most models, so that's a helluva price. Scott Fraser Scott Fraser
