Trade-what do you think?

Okay, if you want to answer, answer SOON.

I found an aqua-colored Mexican fretless Jazz Bass at my local guitar center. It's cheap ($299) and used, but in great condition.

I don't have a lot of money, so what I am probably going to do is sell my old Epiphone EB-0 to the store (for very little, I'm sure, but at least it's money) and buy that. I'm also buying some guitar pedals while I'm there.

What do you guys think? I'll be low on money, but fretless basses ROCK.

I know this is more for the LDLD, but you guys are cooler.

It's called blue agave or something. I just found $120 in my room, so I think I am good to go if I want to buy what I want to buy.

I love fretless basses. This is unfortunately one of those decisions you have to make yourself. If you trade the guitar and love it, you'll be happy. If you trade the guitar and start to miss your Epi, you'll kick yourself for years.

To my ears, it sounds like something you want to do. I know I would do it, but I'm not you. Think hard about it. You'll make the right decision.

You know what? I don't use the Epi much anymore. I think that anything I can do on that one, I can do better on my Thunderbird, and what I can't do on that, I can do on the Fender! So I think I'll go for it. I do have to think of a name, though...hm...it's Mexican, seems like a guy to me....

main questions arise....

How does it feel.. can you handle playing that an knowing you don't have the EB-0 to fall back on?

besides it being fretless.. how does it compare to your EB-0, style, sound.. functionality?

Could you get the same amount of play-versatilty or more then the EB-0?

and after factoring that all in.. what does your fingers-gut say about it? (not your head and eyes.. but overall expereience when you hold it and run your hand down that neck)?

(when trying a guitar..brand or not.. I Close my eyes.. and just get a real feel for it) Impluse GAS is bad even when it's cheap or in hands graps. have to remember what you have and what you can do.. and what you can do without if parting with something to make way for new.

I'd say you were trading up from an Asian Epiphone to a Mex Fender. Now, the two instruments won't sound anything alike, so if you are dependant on the Epi for it's tone, be careful. But, if the Epi isn't something you are using much, or if you have another bass that makes the same sort of noise, go ahead.

I like my fretless bass a lot, and I believe I could use it for almost any song, but I find that I prefer a fretted bass for faster stuff.

I love that color, too.

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Well, I do have a Thunderbird still for fretted stuff, and I wasn't liking the EB-0 much anymore. I like the flatter feel of the neck and how easy it is to slide! The roundwound strings on it feel really good, and there are lines where the frets would be--handy, some fretlesses don't have them.

Today I didn't actually spend that much because I counted up money I had around my room and my mom also told me she owed me money, plus I sold my EB-0 to the store (only $65, but y'know, money's money) and I bought a gig bag, guitar wah, an adapter, and some picks, too, and I only ended up spending about $100, I think.

I was going to say make sure you bargain. Just keep asking for more. I've seen them just keep coming off. I bought a used Ampag bass amp - had it priced at $250 and I walked out for $178 or something like that. It was a lot less than I thought I would get it for. They can especially bargain on the used stuff as you can see how much they pay for it.

I agree with everyone else. If your gunna get a new instrument, Maaaaake sure you got one you KNOW you love to fall back on. I tooka huge chance when i traded in my Ibanez Artcore and Banjo for my new strat, BUT i knew i would love it because i spent litterally spent a few hours of a few days just jammin out on that very guitar.

I didn't want to bargain too much about the EB-0 because I thought they were being fair (plus it was my friend who works there). It was scratched kind of a lot (AAAACCIDENT) and it's not that great of a bass, but I was just thinking of some soon-to-be bassist walking into the store.....

I just remembered...I didn't get to say what I wanted to say to that bass! Dammit! Maybe if I go back soon and see it there, I will talk to him a little more. It's rather important.

I was thinking about how my mom told me that when she didn't have babies anymore, she gave her baby-care stuff to another lady, and how I didn't use my beginner bass anymore, so I can pass it on, because it's not what I need.

I'm not about to go and undo it all, but it feels a little empty in this house without Galahad. I've never been so permanently without him before. This is gonna be cheesy, but he was my first love, I guess. The state of my room is HIS FAULT. :D But really, it's gonna be weird without him.

If one factor of that new bass had been different (color, fretless or fretted, brand, price, etc.) I would not have purchased it. I gave it a talking to about that, how it wouldn't replace Gally and so forth, and how it was absolutely not my favorite of the trio. I was mean, but I was sad.

I was also NUTS. I am totally NUTS. I talk about guitars like people....

My take on trading gear is based on long term goals. If you don't feel attached to the Epiphone and its not a collector piece (?), take a chance on the Jazz bass. When you are young and starting out, it is good to go through several instruments to find what you really like, both from the sound and the feel. Sometimes people will trade something really valuable away because it doesn't fit their current fashion, but it doesn't sound like that is an issue here.

As you get older and are able to make more money, you will be able to buy whatever you need. It sounds like trading in for the Jazz bass will inspire you so go for it. Its not like you are getting ripped off in the trade. If it turns out you don't like it its no big loss.

I got him and I love him, but I think my mum's camera is busy right now. Blast. I may name him Tony not only because Tony Franklin plays the fretless, but he reminds me SO MUCH of Tony. I think it's mostly the color.

Actually, I told Tony I'd gotten a fretless, he's bound to be pleased.

I was about to say that all my instruments have been male, but I'm looking at James, and he's looking kind of feminine right now. I didn't really think about what name fit him that much, I just gave him two rock-legend names.

I already have said it about a guy! :D People are going out way young these days. :D:D

Now he's only my partner in business, jamming, and throwing frozen blueberries at the local preps (of which there are a lot).

Well, haven't quite gotten up to the blueberries yet. Someday, when we are in a town where the cops don't already know us...

Yay for being off topic!

Hello everyone. I have almost decided to sell my main electric guitar, as I now play acoustic. It's a Fender Telecaster Hot Rod in excellent and original conditions. You can see the pictures at http://it.photos.yahoo.com/lapsang2001 I don't like the idea of eBay, I'd prefer selling it to a Telecaster maniac. Price is $900

Update: My sister told me she would have bought the bass from me! And I would have gotten more money that way! Plus I would have still had it around. I really missed him last night. I don't know why, I just really did. I guess I don't need a reason to cry at night. It wasn't that great of a bass but it's hard to get over. My sister is asking for that bass for her birthday, I think.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am with her playing the bass. She's more of an acoustic guitar person. I guess it's sort of like when I started playing the guitar, but I'm really interested in electric. Anyway, it would be nice to have it around, not so nice to have her play it.

I am a selfish nutcase.
