Hardtail Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 This looks interesting: http://www.jetslide.com/ Found it in the latest MF catalog I got in the mail. I want to get one but first I have to figure out my ring size. I'd also have to take off the wedding band to use it. I honestly don't know if the damned thing comes off anymore.

Fumblyfingers Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I have to say that both the video and electric guitar audio clips sounded pretty bad to my ear. Both players seemed flat to me. Am I wrong here....did my ear go off overnight. The guitar tones were really bad too but that is not what the clips are about. I could not play the acoustic clip which I would have liked to hear. I would not have used either to promote my product.
Hardtail Posted July 22, 2006 Author Posted July 22, 2006 Yuck. I guess the promos were pretty bad, eh?
Ricochet Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I have one of those. It works well for the niche suggested by its maker (who's a nice guy.) People who're principally playing fretted standard tuning stuff, and occasionally want to do a slide lick, then quickly get back to fretting. I find its mass insufficient for good tone and sustain on the heavy strings I use for acoustic sliding, and wouldn't use it as a primary slide. Works much better on the lighter strings usually used on electrics. It does flip down and back very easily, and doesn't get in the way of fretting when it's flipped up. A very nice, special purpose product. If you have a need for such a device, this one will fill the bill admirably. "A cheerful heart is good medicine."
mdrs Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Hard Tail....be careful taking that wedding ring off, man..... That first video was worse than the videos I take of my son's band using a palm digital video recorder...and a cheapo one at that! Both the video, and the sound were horrible. I couldn't really hear the slide at all. And, there's no way you could see the slide in action. The "Hester" audio sounded real screachy to me...no balls, pardon the language. The acoustic clips were a tad better, but still sounded thin to me. Hard Tail....let us know if you have a chance to play that thing. It would be interesting to know what you think of it. I am NOT a good slide player at all. But, I've tried out a bunch of them. I personally really like this one; http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dunlop-Eric-Sardinas-Preachin-Pipe-Brass-Guitar-Slide?sku=364060 The brass sounds particularly good when playing on an acoustic. This particular brass slide (I'm pretty sure that's the one I have) has a thicker brass on one side of the tube, and thinner walled brass on the other side. There is also a bit of a curve to the outside. I also like a heavy glass slide for electric. I just wish I could really play them well! Don Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy.
