mdrs Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 What do you do when you separate the fingernail from it's bed on your fretting hand? This happens to me often. It seems to happen after I cut my nails (??too short??), or after I haven't played for a bit (like coming home from vacation after not palying for a week). I've used Crazy Glue, and that seems to help a bit. Any suggestions?? Don Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Bluesape Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I'd say too short is the likely issue. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
A String Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 This is one of those problems I've never had to deal with. My nails are cut way to short, but they never seem to separate. I've heard of folks using the Crazy Glue technique, but I really don't know of any other remedies. Sorry Doc. Craig Stringnetwork on Facebook String Network Forum My Music
Guitarzan Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 crazy glue. i cut mine way short and the only time it is a probalem is if i do it right before i go to work. there are movements i do that can pull the skin away from my nail. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
The Geoff Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I've never had that problem - wonder why? Maybe I'm not playing enough. G. LPCustom Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I've had that happen once or twice but only if my nails were just even with my finger tips. Superglue seems to be a good way to fix it. Works for me when that happens (rarely). Born on the Bayou
mdrs Posted July 19, 2006 Author Posted July 19, 2006 Guitarzan...That's interesting that you seem to have "nail separation" right after cutting your nails. I most often seem to get nail separation if I cut my nails, and then play right after. Maybe there is something going on there... Maybe I should wait a period of time after cutting my nails before I play.... I'll have to test that theory out. Don Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. BadLife Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I have never had that happen and I always cut my nails right before I play. I do not like nail digging into the fretboard. I also might point out that I never have the string that close to the nails and I am a very physical player. I cut them real short too. I get the string with the meat of the finger. I have however ran the sting under the fingernail and cut the quick, but that is my own fault or I slip. Gets blood all over the fretboard I can usually still play but it does hurt and messes up my playing style
miroslav Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Just don't cut them past the white/pink borderline of the nail. Actually...cut just a pinch above...so that you can still see a small amount of the white nail. And yeah...Krazy Glue solves a lot of my nail tears and those skin cracks that you can get in the wintertime. Sure beats using a band-aid...as you can still play...though if you play too hard...even the Krazy Glue will give...and then you need to re-glue. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."
skipclone 1 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I believe Krazy Glue is TOXIC-I wouldn`t go getting that stuff on myself. That area of the fingers heals pretty fast, giving it a rest before playing might be a better idea. skipclone 1 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 say, isn`t there something like an `invisible bandage` that sprays on? I seem to remember seeing it somewhere. Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491
