Bbach1 Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I used to be enthused about all the high gloss sunburst, cherryburst, etc. finishes on wild quilted maple tops. Even bought a couple nice ones from Hamer and G&L. Now though, I'm tired of that look. I need a new girlfriend and she's going to have to be a solid color. Maybe a goldtop or something like my avatar. Not to put down those beautiful wood grain finishes, just tired of them all. bbach Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
Hardtail Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I'm more into the conservative colors myself (though I wouldn't mind having one "quilted" guitar) but I'm probably a bit outdated.
Trucks Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Im kind of boring.. I like black... no pickguard. Soundclick Myspace
Bluesape Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I'm still due for a quilted somethin' or other. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
rotosound45 Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I used to drool over quilted tops and flamed necks, but since the influx of cheaper guitars with fake "photo" finishes, it has become something like polishing a turd. Even in my days of drool, I still managed to stick with solid colors and basic sunbursts.
AeroG33k Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I love quilt or flame tops with a sunburst or blue-ish stain on them. I also love natural finishes, but if I were to chose colors for my next guitars, I'd go with a glossy white or burgundy with gold hardware. -Andy "I know we all can't stay here forever so I want to write my words on the face of today...and they'll paint it" -Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)
Sleaze_Disease Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I tend to favor bursts and flame tops (if tastefully done). I would say my favorite finish is definately tobacco sunburst. It's just classic. Lyrics-wasted time between solos.

Yea Roto, the influx of all the Chinese versions that have that photo finish as you call it really seem to cheapen the whole thing. Still, something to be said for some real quality wood and a high quality finish. I would say my favorite finish is definately tobacco sunburst. It's just classic. I like the T-burst as well and was considering a new Carvin done up in all that, but somehow the solid colors are grabbing me now. bbach Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
skipclone 1 Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 I`m less taken with colors of any kind these days-my last two purchases have both been the see-through type-show me some skin, baby...er...some wood, that is. Helm, get us out of here... Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491
Mike Gug Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 I dig vintage-type colors. My Strat is a dark seafoam green. I dig it. I never see myself with a black guitar. And for all those about to call me a racist... I don't see myself with a white one either. Mikegug www.facebook.com/theresistancemusic
UnderTheGroove_dup2 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I only own one guitar that isn't natural or sunburst finish. What can I say? I guess I like the look of wood grain. My green Gretsch gets a lot of comments, though... Year End Sale: Save 20% on Jam Tracks or Exotica. Save 30% when you buy both. Sale ends December 31. www.UnderTheGroove.com

The Big G Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Well I love most of the classic sunbursts and would love a few quilted top guitars, but all the finishes can be great on the right guitar, but Tobacco sunburst is probably my fav Love life, some twists and turns are more painful than others, but love life..... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=592101
Guitarzan Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 it really depends on the guitar for me. i don't like overly bright colors on guitars without pickguards. i absolutely dig a plain mahogany guitar. and sunbursts are sweet. unless they look like a drunk sprayed them. i like aged white. and for some reason i am kind of liking the 70's era strat headstock more. i used to hate them. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
