Funny how tastes in guitar looks change over time

I used to be enthused about all the high gloss sunburst, cherryburst, etc. finishes on wild quilted maple tops. Even bought a couple nice ones from Hamer and G&L. Now though, I'm tired of that look. I need a new girlfriend and she's going to have to be a solid color. Maybe a goldtop or something like my avatar.

Not to put down those beautiful wood grain finishes, just tired of them all.

I'm more into the conservative colors myself (though I wouldn't mind having one "quilted" guitar) but I'm probably a bit outdated.

I used to drool over quilted tops and flamed necks, but since the influx of cheaper guitars with fake "photo" finishes, it has become something like polishing a turd.

Even in my days of drool, I still managed to stick with solid colors and basic sunbursts.

I love quilt or flame tops with a sunburst or blue-ish stain on them. I also love natural finishes, but if I were to chose colors for my next guitars, I'd go with a glossy white or burgundy with gold hardware.

I tend to favor bursts and flame tops (if tastefully done). I would say my favorite finish is definately tobacco sunburst. It's just classic.

Yea Roto, the influx of all the Chinese versions that have that photo finish as you call it really seem to cheapen the whole thing. Still, something to be said for some real quality wood and a high quality finish.

I like the T-burst as well and was considering a new Carvin done up in all that, but somehow the solid colors are grabbing me now.

I dig vintage-type colors. My Strat is a dark seafoam green. I dig it.

I never see myself with a black guitar. And for all those about to call me a racist... I don't see myself with a white one either. ;)

Oh stifle it or I'll detune your guitar then hide your 50 allen wrenches you need to re-tune it. :D
