alex2zulu Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 hey, i was wondering about the fender hotrod 1x12, i played it in the shop and i thought it was a very nice amp BUT it hasnt got a very good metal tone and i was thinking maybe this could be sorted out with a tube screamer? would i be right id be looking for a metallica sound if that wouldnt work what valve combo would u suggest for a mettalica sound at around £500 im based in eastbourne england. i dont have much in the way of tryable gear at the local shop just the standard - a shit load of marshalls (i liked the TSL series) and lots of solid states and fenders advice form any of u with "know how" is welcome thanx
Hardtail Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 A tube screamer is going to give you a similar sound that you can already get from the distorted channel. If you want a Metallica type sound from the HRD, you'll probably have to use a BOSS Metal Drive or something comparable.
Gabriel E. Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 To really get that tight, thumping low end, you'll need a sealed extension cabinet - preferably a 4x12. An open-back Fender isn't going to do it. The lows will sound mushy when you turn it up. "You never can vouch for your own consciousness." - Norman Mailer
Hardtail Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I agree with Gabriel. I know this open backed Fender isn't going to do what you want it to do. It's great for my purposes but probably wouldn't be for yours.
Big Red 67 Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Yep, try the ephi valve junior with a 4X12. Big Red's Ride Blog
