I am thinking of getting a Vox Clyde McCoy Wah, I find my 'Cry Baby' too harsh for my taste. I mainly intend to use it in a blues project. Anybody using this reissue that has any comments to share! :wave:

Welcome to the Forum Jon :D

Which crybaby you got?

I have the GCB-95, and found it to shrill and not to forgiving on movement...

So mod'd it.. and mod'd it again and the thing just rocks now! much cheaper then getting another one.

although the VOX does kick butt, give it a bit for the more WAH WAH officals to log in and you'll have tonnes of great advice. :D:D

Well to tell you the truth....I have owned both the Vox V847 that is based on the original vox like hendrix used but does not have a true bypass or an AC jack that comes with it.... and then I had the Vox V848 Clyde Mcoy wah that has both those features that come standard with it.

But I have to tell you that the V848 Clyde Mcoy is more shrill sounding to me than the V847 is! When you go all the way down on the pedal the wah is very sharp sounding.

I bought the Vox V848 after I was using up so many batteries in my Vox V847 wah....but I never could get used to the sound of the V848 Clyde Mcoy wah.

So one day I was on ebay and there was a auction by this place called "chucks tone garage" that offered to mod my V847 for $45.00 and make it so that it had three things it did not have before....

1. It now has true bypass (you can mod this yourself but I went ahead and let him do it) 2. he installed an AC adapter jack so that I can now plug in my pedal to the wall socket and not have to worry about going through so many 9V batteries, because the V847 ate them up. 3. He even put in a small light in the side so I could know in a loud situation weather or not my V847 wah was on or off. The light comes on when you turn on the wah and goes off when you go back to regular guitar! This guy did an excellent job and the pedal itself looks like it came from the factory that way.

To make a long story even longer....I SOLD my Vox V848 Clyde Mcoy because I had found the sound I was looking for. I would suggest that you A/B the two in a store before making the plunge and you will see what I am talking about.

Here is the guy on ebay that does the great mods.

(If you DON'T own a vox v847 he sells you a brand new one with the mods installed for $139.00)

Hope this helps. By the way, I use a BOSS power supply for plugging into the wall socket...this is what he reccomended...either that or an Ibanez

Thank you all there has been some great advice. WEBE123, I listen to some sound clips and thought the V847 had a more rounded sound, but was frustrated at the lack of 9v connection and lack of true bypass.

Big Red have not heard a 535q yet!

A String & Stamplicker I am glad its not just me that find them harsh. So moding it is an option but again its not cheap here!

I have been looking at the fulltone Clyde Standard and Deluxe wish I could hear some sound clips. Anyway in America these seem to sell at a resonable price . In Britian it is another story I hardly anybody stock them and when they do they cost £300

Thanks again everyone you have given me food for thought!

YES, try the 535Q. I have a original Vox and Clyde McCoy and a 335Q also and a Jordan Gig Wah. The 535Q is by far the most versitile, and it's adjustable boost function is very good up to the 50% mark, after that it adds too much compression for my taste. It clones the others very well. I would say that if you where only going to have one wah the 535Q would be the one to have.

Jon,

Welcome!! I've owned "too many" wah's, and just can not seem to fing "the one". I haven't found a modern one that sounds like Clapton in Cream, or Santana in the old days!!

My current wah is;

I feel that this is the best I've used, so far any way. I like the Budda Wah a lot, but not as much as the Dunlop-Hendrix one;

Good luck

wah,wah,wah, I am not the only one suffering from the wah wah blues, but I have looked at the 535q on dunlops sight and it does look impressive, and I will check it out as soon as i can. I had made my mind up that it was not going to be Dunlop but......
