thanny XIII Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Do any of ya'll like black metal such as Cradle of Filth Dimmu Borgir Mayhem Old mans Child Immortal Celtic Frost Bathory this is my favorite kind of music and some of my favorite bands. What about you guys? I knew a girl that was into biamping,I sure do miss her.-ButcherNburn
Sleaze_Disease Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Celtic Frost is sweet, my fav. has always been Mayhem. Burzum is pretty good too. Lyrics-wasted time between solos.
musicalhair Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I have an old Celtic Frost cassette. I haven't listened to it since like 1987. At the time I loved it. The vocals were a total goof, none of my freinds or me could figure out what the guy was ... ahh ... ummm ... well we couldn't figure what what he was doing let alone what he might be saying. As heavy and rocking and serious as the music was-- as I loved it-- there was an air of "what is this" about it for me. Oh, the tape was To Mega Therion check out some comedy I've done: http://louhasspoken.tumblr.com/ My Unitarian Jihad Name: Brother Broadsword of Enlightened Compassion.
stanner Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 SUNNO))) is my band of choice. they do the drone thangg so well-they are often grouped into that genre-but i dont think they are. sometimes i plug in my SUNN amps and cabs and get into that subharmonic place that soothes the soul...and bends time... but i also think i've been sterilized-wott???? s AMPSSOUNDBETTERLOUDER
Tone Taster Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I used to dig a band called Mashuga from the 90's who had some pretty state of the art hard grooves. Very clean riffs and beats with real bass lines. I had to quit listening to that genre as it seemed to put me on edge, something I don't need more of that's for sure Another group who never made it was exhorter and another one called Raped Ape who later changed their name they were on one of those death metal labels I used to listern to CF & venom way back in the day
Sleaze_Disease Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Of course, Venom!! How could I forget?!? Early black/speed metal pioneers. Killer band. Lyrics-wasted time between solos.
thanny XIII Posted July 3, 2006 Author Posted July 3, 2006 Venom and burzum are good. CoF covered venoms "Black Metal" I knew a girl that was into biamping,I sure do miss her.-ButcherNburn

I remember them. Band name is from the Yiddish for "crazy". A bunch of loud, obnoxious music I USED to make with friends.
Guitarzan Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 you guys are dark. i seen a cradle of filth video that was pretty twisted. those dudes need to lighten up. man Venom takes me back. pure evil. i can't take black metal seriously , it makes me chuckle. c'mon. i do like my music heavy but the lyrics and image of black metal is a bit too anally puckered for me to swallow. how is that for a screwed up description? i can dig some of the newer stuff by A7X. and i have never lost my taste for Megadeth and Judas Priest. but they aren't black metal. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
thanny XIII Posted July 3, 2006 Author Posted July 3, 2006 No they aren't. But they are pretty cool. I knew a girl that was into biamping,I sure do miss her.-ButcherNburn

rotosound45 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Exhorter was great! My favorite black metal band would be Emporer.

Griffinator Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 The only thing that ever really (and, in fact, still does, because they still do it) bothered me about Black Metal is the posturing. Even in their conversation, it's all about who's more evil, who's more extreme, who's more dark. Whatever. Play what's in you, and let that be your voice. No need to talk about it if you're saying it with your music. I'd refer you to that tired old Frank Zapppa quote, but I'm sure every one of you knows it... A bunch of loud, obnoxious music I USED to make with friends.
Gifthorse Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 If someone plays white metal does that make them a racist? just kiddin, dumb. I dunno what black metal is. Too many categories Last I checked there was speed metal, death metal. is Alice in Chains metal? They were pretty dark. I mean the singer died after going sick about everything for 4 albums. To me Black Sabbath will always be the darkest. To create an intense dark mood you have to have vocals and melody combined of course with cool riffs. I hate most stuff if it doesn't have a pay off with the vocals. You can really make it evil as shit without cluttering it with a mess if you have killer vocals. Bt what do I know. I am oldskool metal when I listen. http://flagshipmile.dmusic.com/ http://www.myspace.com/gifthorse
skipclone 1 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 There is a film playing here currently called `Metal: A Headbanger`s Journey` by Sam Dunn that includes music and interviews with some of these guys. The reviewer said that most of the guys turn out to be a fine, sociable bunch-with the exception of some Scandinavian black metal guys he found disturbing. I`ll probably wait and rent it, movies are too expensive here. Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491
Ricardo. Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I've heard of some Scandinavian guy that apparently ate parts of his bass player... I don't appreciate black metal very much; I feel it was taken in the wrong direction (metal). Most of the time I've only seen advancements in it in the 'more extreme' style.
Hairfarmer Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Dudes...there's a whole other society of "dark", or "black" metal (if you will), that most of normal society never even hears about. I use to recieve a periodical from an underground publication that got my address through my producer. It was filled with bands like "BegN4Deth"; "Septic Bile"; "Eat the Flesh"; "Afterbirth";...you get the idea. I sent off for a few mini-disc's from BegN4Deth and Septic Bile, which as it turned out, makes anything by groups like Cradle of Filth and Celtic Frost sound like Disney soundtracks. That's when I found out what real "black" metal was. Cradle, etc., is not your average genre of metal, it's very heavy and very over the edge, but check out the underground if you think anything being recorded commercially is black. I'm as metal as they come...but I'm not so sure that the really dark stuff is about the metal, as much as it is about having lost touch with the true meaning of life. There's some truly confused mutherf*ckers out there. But, maybe I'm the one that's confused, and the black metal groups are just trying to market something that's just a little bit more edgy than the last guy (did Marilyn Manson create yet another genre of metal? Look for the thread that ask' that question, coming soon.) Kerry
