miroslav Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Sowhat do you all have on tap for this long holiday weekendmostly parties or house projectsor both? It appears that some people get all geared up to kick backand others take the opportunity to catch up on their to-do lists! Im doing a bit of both during my 5-day holiday (I took Friday off too! ). I could have spent the weekend at my sisters house out in Bridgehampton, Long Islandbut instead I decided to stay home aloneand in the peace and quiet, get caught up on house chores and on some music projects. So each day Im spending the morning/afternoon doing one of my house jobsand then I have a late lunch and head off into my studiowell into the night. Today I had a big job outsidebut Im done nowand in about 10minuites, Im heading off into my studio! miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."
picker Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Gonna stay inside and enjoy my air conditioning. Maybe I'll buy a little ground beef and make a few hamburgers, which I will eat while looking out my sliding glass door. I will also probably rent a couple of DVDs, and play with my new Bass POD XT. There are several fireworks shows every year that are visible from my church's parking lot, and I might go watch them after dark. But other than that, I'm just gonna take it waaaay easy. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
headlow Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I just watched England get put out of the world cup. I'm as happy as I'll get in a weekend where I have nothing on.

I had Tivo'd the game and was getting ready to watch it and avoided the score all day so far, just missed hearing it a couple times and now you come along and in one fell swoop crush my Cup watching for the day. See....that's the kinda shit that happens when you steal software. the bad Kharma gets you AAAARGH!!.. Actually it is not that bad....I am not THAT into the game at this point....and England sucks anyway.........Anglicanism rules....Bush rocks.......white guys can't play the blues, except Jimmie Vaughn, dude is awesome.......just trying to stir it up a bit

Hardtail Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Put a solar cover on my pool a few weeks ago because "she" wanted it. Removed it Friday and there was a science project in the pool. It's clean now but too toxic to do any swimming in it for a day or two. Mostly just staying home. We had some company earlier today and will have some Monday but that's about it. Getting some guitar practice in here and there. Lots of work to do there.
mdrs Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Took in The Nuge in concert last night. I tried to get my boys to go to see Toto, who's playing tonight at the same local venue, but they didn't think that was cool enough for them!!! Let's see....Simon Phillips, Steve Lukather, David Paich, Mike Porcaro, et al.... Not cool enough?? Oh Boy....well, as evidenced by the fact that I'm typing here right now, not at the show, you can tell how unpersuasive my argument was!! Don Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. bluenote420 Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I'll prolly do a LOT of guitar practicing throughout the weekend, and i'm gonna go on a hike tommorrow. then on the fourth and the day before i'm prolly gonna hit this party and launch some fireworks. fun.
Bbach1 Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Oh crap, I've got a "honey do" list too long to even look at. Made some great barbeque beef in the slow cooker today. Gonna do some yard work and I promised the ol lady I'd help clean the carpets tomorrow. Oil change in the car Monday and as much guitar practice as I can get between chores. Gotta stomp my daughter a few times in around the world on the driveway, just to show her the old man's still got it. Then I suppose we'll take the dogs to the dog park so they can run wild without a leash. Gonna be busy. I'm gonna need a few days off to recover from my days off. bbach Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
Steevo Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Grill caught on fire tonight ... big time, fire extinguisher and all. So I will clean that up tomorrow. Then, resume the original project of re-caulking the shower. So projects until Monday evening ... then party at a friends house. Too far in advance after that...
miroslav Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 You know...if you have too much work to do around the house...technically, it's not a "day off". miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."

Mike Gug Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Last weekend we had our 3rd Annual Battle of the Bands/Music Fest/BBQ in my backyard. What a blast! I covered the neighborhood with warning fliers advising them of the noise (joyful sound) they were gonna hear. Three bands and families in my house and pool. Here are the stats: -2:30 pm to 8:30 pm -30 adults -25 kids -30 hot dogs -40 hamburgers -6 guitars -2 basses -2 keyboards -1 trap set -5 misc. amps -102 degrees -1 swimming pool always full -countless songs and jams ending w/ my version of Louie Louie -zero neighborhood complaints! When I did Louie Louie, my bass player's son asked, "Dad, what's he singing about?" He answered, "He doesn't know. No one knows." Mikegug www.facebook.com/theresistancemusic
Darcy H Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Working 14 hour day shifts right through till next Friday.....arrrgh! First sunny days here in six weeks! I should write a blues song about it! I've got alot time off later in July, so I really can't complain. www.myspace.com/darcyhoover

Gifthorse Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I played Friday night, fun gig. Tons of hotties. YOu guys ever think having a bunch of hotties at a show distracts the people at the bar from watching the band? I am just going to grill out at my parents and then me and my sister and my brother in law are going to my best friends to get teh kids together. I am hoping they will get along. http://flagshipmile.dmusic.com/ http://www.myspace.com/gifthorse
Dr. Ellwood Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 We played the regular gig Fri and Saturday nights and stayed over at one of the Casinos in Windsor.the whole band did and it was a blast. Then we brought back most of our gear and deposited it in my garage because we are swithing over to rehearsals at my house again. SO these two days off Monday and Tuesday I will be getting the rehearsal room ready to bring in the equipment. It's going to be great not to have to drive to the East side of town for rehearsal again. I also have been running some health and welfare phone patches from the military amatuer radio stations located in Iraq letting deployed personnel talk as long as they want to their loved ones here in the Detroit area. http://www.thestringnetwork.com
Tone Taster Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I'm gonna stay inside, craft some killer amp tones and shed some chips, sight reading, songwriting, etc . . 4th of july weekend is just another day of practice
Hardtail Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Well, now the pool is crystal clear and I had a nice swim. Except for some company tomorrow, the next few days off just mean more practice like yZeCounsel stated. I'm getting into improv practicing bigtime right now.

Gruupi Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I am working hard on my guitar playing as well this weekend yZeCounsel. I am really working hard on improvising in Dorian mode and some other stuff, playing along with the Aebersold Miles Davis CD. Even when I pick up my classical I find myself getting of course and playing Miles. I guess I should start looking for some transcriptions of everyones soloes on "Kind of Blue". Its alot deeper that just playing modes or scales. I tell you those tunes are the perfect vehicle for improvising, the chord changes aren't frantic and all over the place, while the rhythms and grooves are just so cool. skipclone 1 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 No long weekend here, gotta talk to someone about that. It`s after the fact now but-saturday, an all night (almost) pre-wedding party for a co-worker. Date on sunday, one of the best grilled chicken places around. We`re supposed to be keeping things discreet, but she says every time we go someplace someone knows me. Publicity, the double edged sword... Tone Taster Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Well . . . I did breakdown and got some ribs marinading for a a coupe days till the 4th. In Florida, we do Spanish Style. There is this incredible Marinade for pork called Mojo Criollio. You mix that w/some Bitter orange marinade and you are set If you are a rib master like me here is a tip: Have some watered down barbecue sauce and hit the ribs with that constantly as it dries out. Remember, with Ribs, you gotta stay on 'em - you can't just leave 'em there like chicken or steak gradually and incrementally thicken it - but not too much ! Only towards the very end, do you put on the thick uncut sauce afterwards, roll them around in the bowl where the sauce was and wet 'em up some more
GuitarPlayerFL Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Went to the Carvin store to buy another music stand while drooling at the California Carved Top and Holdsworth Fatboy guitars. Yum! Carvin is giving free factory tours on Aug 12 (with free food and endorsed musicians there too), so I'll be going down to Escondito then. Otherwise, going to Santa Barbara for the 4th. miroslav Posted July 3, 2006 Author Posted July 3, 2006 Day four of my 5-day weekend, and I'm blown out from doing shit around the house... ...but I've also been working in my studio every night too! I had three major house projects to complete...and now they're done... ...so I think tonight and all day tomorrow will be nothin' but studio time! That's one of the nice things about the winter...unless it snows, there ain't too much outside house work to be done. Man...it was sweltering the last couple of days. Working outside in that heat just about wiped me out. Sospeaking of projectsone of the things I did was to remove the off-air antenna from my roof. After 5 years of having a digital dishI figured I was never again going to use the antennaand it was just an eyesore on the roof. How many of you still watch off-air TV so that you still need an antenna on your roof? miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."
