Glasgow Drive Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Hello everyone, I play guitar in a band called Glasgow Drive and I am looking for a distinct sound but I am not really sure where to start. First, I am currently playing out of a B-52 AT-100 head and AT-412 mono/stereo cab. I run this through a sonic maximizer and an aural exciter. My Current guitar is an Ibanez RG223. I like my amp and all, but I want to get a new guitar or new pick-ups(not sure which). I am really confused on what to buy because I want a CLEAR but FULL TONE. My bands style is very versatile, we mix genres alot so I need a versatile pick up as well. People have told me to go with EMG pick-ups because they are active, but I have also been told les paul standards have a full tone sound, although that doesn't seem quite clear enough for me. If anyone can help I would appriciate it a lot thank you!
revolead Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Go to the Seymour Duncan Website and they can help you. There's a cool chart where you can examine and listen to various pickups. IMO, nobody needs EMG actives. Then again, I'm partial to my SDs. I suggest you try some '59s (model name). Those seem to be very versatile. Shut up and play.
The Geoff Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Another good company which makes a *very* wide range of pickups is Bare Knuckle Pickups . Well worth a look. By the way - how come the name? Since I come from Glasgow, I'm interested. caprae Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Here are two threads you need to read from the seymour duncan forums. The first is on Bill (& Becky) Lawrence pickups. These are know for their clarity and evenness. The second is on making hybrid pickups from two SD pickups thus extending the range and harmonics. I have a set of the Bill Lawrence pickups on order. Bill Lawrence thread Quote from another thread, "The BL is perfect if you're looking for tight and articulate with killer harmonics. I've found my tone and won't be changing it anytime soon." caprae Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I didn't see that you were in San Diego. Bill (& Becky) Lawrence are out in Corona, CA. Here is their site: http://www.billlawrence.com/ Its not pretty, but you can see their pickups have a loyal following. Raise your children and spoil your grandchildren.
