Dr. Ellwood Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Last night I took two of my Gretsch's to the gig along with a LP and one Strat. I started out the night with the CG and later went over to the Nashville, what a gas! Through the entire gig I went between those two and never once picked up the other two! Sometimes I forget how fantastic those axes really are! I wonder why the Gretsch popularity has fallen off over the years? These axes will do anyting you ask of them and what great quality and tone they have. http://www.thestringnetwork.com
Justus A. Picker Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I never really cared for Gretsch's. It's not a tone deal, they just look and feel "hardwarey" to me. Yeah, I'm wierd.... http://www.smokedsalmonband.com/exile/exile1.jpg

Yeah, I'm wierd.... Hehe. I'm not a big fan of their more 'acoustic' electrics, though I think the CG's great. I'd love a Duo Jet, though. Yeah. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v324/DocTazz/other/cloudnine.jpg The best reason to own one, man. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
A String Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I find them a little bulky, but I do love the sound. Craig Stringnetwork on Facebook String Network Forum My Music
jbote Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I don't know why they aren't more popular these days. Great guitars. If I could afford it I'd have a whole stable of 'em - a Nashville, a Country Club, an Anniversary...but I'll just have to enjoy my Streamliner for now. I do see a Duo Jet in the near future though... Gruupi Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I never liked the feel of them either but every time I hear one I love it. My soundclick site: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=397188 My YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/gruupi

My previous post makes it sound like my Streamliner is just taking up space until another Gretsch comes along - nothing could be further from the truth. I just get serious GAS when Gretsch guitars are brought up - I would happily take one of each model, if that pesky thing known as money didn't get in the way. John
picker Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 They just cost too much for most folks. I'd love to have A Tennesean, but barring a financial miracle, it ain't happening anytime soon. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Caevan O'Shite Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I really, really Jones for a Gretsch Elliot Easton sig-model, kinda like a fine-tuned, tweaked version of the Duo-Jet, with "Filter'Tron" humbuckers. And a vintage '50s Round-Up (the new "reissues" are lame!) with the single-coil Dynasonic pickups. And either a Malcolm Young sig-model, or a Jet Firebird like his... Yeah; those'd be the three Gretches I'd really like to have; too cool! Caevan O'Shite Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 It's the blue-green Strat, that's what does it. Tedster- you could always put a Bigsby on one; it'd almost certainly have to be a gold one, so as to stick-out glaringly, don'tcha think? I bet that "Soul is the Goal" Bono Vox sig-model gretsch would do ya, too... am I right? A Bigsby would make it that much better. BTW, is that a '56 you are leaning on, and is it just a coincedence that the wheel is the same color as your Strat? Bluesape Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I had the chance to buy a "birdshit green" Tennessean years ago, but it needed stings, a bridge, soldering.....I didn't know much about them then, and the first wife was opposed - it ended up going for $25.00 Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!

Geoff You're crackin' me up, Geoff, and Phillipa Greg B...I think that was a '55 Dodge Coronet...the fins weren't as big as a '56. Just a coincidence. The whole thing had been turquoise at one time. Dr. Ellwood Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 I've still got the original hard shell case for my 56 RocJet, wonder if there is any market for vintage cases? http://www.thestringnetwork.com
The Big G Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I can un derstand why these guitars are not everyones choice, some say they are over the top, bulky etc... I know I love mine and would love another to add to my growing list of guitars. They play sweetly have fab pick ups and generally ther are just great imho. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j218/The-Big-G/DSCGretsch6120.jpg Love life, some twists and turns are more painful than others, but love life..... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=592101
