Guitarzan Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 my local music store is having a contest. i was suprised that the prize is a trip for two to Cuba. WTF? yeah i entered, but why aren't they giving away a freaking guitar or something? please leave the trips and stuff like that for regular folks, ok? music stores. we guitar players want toys for prizes. a 1500.00 dollar shopping spree would have been nice. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will
Gruupi Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I thought it was still illegal for Americans to even travel to Cuba (U.S. Law not Cuban Law). That is an interesting prize for sure. I wonder how they are going to pass that one off. My soundclick site: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=397188 My YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/gruupi

The Geoff Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I'm another Brit that'd love to see Cuba before Fidel turns up his toes, because it'll change completely after that. 'Zan, I agreed, you'd expect a music prize from a music shop. G. Yeah man I totally agree with your first post It is a bit strange... They most likely have some kind of advertising deal or promotion with a holiday company that put the prize in the pot. caprae Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 That is strange. I do know a lot of people that would go to Cuba in a heartbeat - I'm talking big money people so there must be something special about parts of Cuba. If you win, go and look for the best luthier down there and snag a guitar. Raise your children and spoil your grandchildren. Spoil your children and raise your grandchildren.
S. Yeti Bigfoot, Esq. Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Yeah...I was just kidding. I would probably go to Cuba if the opportunity arose. Not Pakistan, though...I've been there and was NOT impressed. "And so I definitely, when I have a daughter, I have a lot of good advice for her." ~Paris Hilton BWAAAHAAAHAAHAAA!!!

A String Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I'd love to go to Cuba. Other then Canada and the U.S., I've never travelled anywhere. I'd also like to travel around Europe. I love the history. Oh, and seeing the pyramids would be cool too. Craig Stringnetwork on Facebook String Network Forum My Music

I've been to every state in the U.S. except Alaska, and I've been to Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, Guyana, most of the Carribean Islands, Puerto Rico, every country in Asia except North Korea and Indonesia. I spent over 2 years in Mainland China alone. But I've never been to Europe. One of my dreams is to go to Spain. I've never been to Australia...I have always wanted to go there. Darcy H Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 They'll probally send you to Varadero, this huge neverending beach along the North/North-East shore. Wherever you go, there's these guys playing traditional Cuban music on their guitars, they are all over the place, and I saw at least one guy join in...so there's your guitar connection. Rent a bike and head to the end of the pennisula, there's a Marineland like deal, try to hit it between tour buses, you'll have it all to yourself, and offer the dolphin trainer $20 US and jump in....ride the dolphin's backs, they'll push you around, it's pretty cool. Then head to the Cohiba factory, pick up a box of cigars at $2 each that go in Montreal for $30 a piece, then spend AT LEAST one day in Havana. I tired to hit all the Hemingway hang-outs and drank ALOT of rum (rum and coke - Cuba Libre). Don't pay any of the tour guys to take a boat to snorkel either. I found a taxi driver that for $20 US, picked up his family and took us to Playo Corallo about twenty minutes from our hotel, it's all locals and huge heads of coral and gorgeous fish are 30 feet from shore. He spent the day with us there. Read Hemingway, hang on the beach, visit a sugar plantation...it's all good. I loved Cuba! I didn't find it touristy at all, very laid back, and well...Cuban. Whose offering the prize, Music Stop? www.myspace.com/darcyhoover
