alex2zulu Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Hey people, i had my mind made on a new amp (even though i still owe my dad £209 for my les paul) but then i thought: what about a Line6 POD 2.0 or XT it would run through a pair of 2.1 logitech speakers and quite probably a PC too for editing etc etc so what are your opinions on this ? what are the good and bad points of the pod, both versions 2.0 and XT. also are ther any alteritives to this sort of set up ? thanx for the help
pollock Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 You're saying you want to get that instead of the amp? I wouldn't do that. Get the amp first then go from there. my band: http://www.blujavu.com www.myspace.com/blujavu
Dr. Ellwood Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 If you don't have a live amp you should get one before the POD. Maybe you are not planning on live gigging, then I guess you would be ok with the POD? http://www.thestringnetwork.com
alex2zulu Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 hey guys, i do already have an amp, ok its an MG100DFX (the one with the better distortion)but i use a boss MT-2 with it and it sounds really quite usable, nothing terrible like every one says it is. I travel alot too so i would like something potable that i can use like anywhere eather with speakers or headphones. Ellwood: i dont play live but i would be coverd if i did - the mg is 100watts and that getts louder with the pedal for some resen. so really i would use this in place of a low spec valve combo like the Epi 5 watt with that info revield what do u think ? oh and is the xt THAT much better that the 2.0 ?
Gruupi Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I am a big fan of the Pod Xt (I have the XTLIve version). I think it is much better than the Pod 2.0. The 2.0 was ok, but the XT is just more musical. I think modeling technology can still improve but the latest generation makes it a viable alternative to traditional tube amps for both live and recording. You will find people that disagree with this so you just have to use your own judgement on the tones. Ricardo. Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Instead I recommend the Behringer V-Ampire (pedal). It's cheap at $50 (on eBay) and it's GREAT. It doesn't respond super-well to dynamics (I haven't tried the Pod) but everything else is great value.
pollock Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 OK, since you already have an amp that would probably work out, but I've never been a fan of the POD. Just go for what feels right to you. my band: http://www.blujavu.com www.myspace.com/blujavu
