The Who Webcasts

I'm not sure if this is considered Spam...forgive me if it is, but I thought many here would be interested in this.

Pete Townshend does it again! He will be web casting portions of each of the shows that The Who (or whats left of them) do on their European tour, which began with their anniversary show at Leeds University last weekend. The Leeds show, Im pretty sure, will be released as a DVD in the future.

Ninety nine cents per show, and theyll show 3 or 4 songs from each show. You can sign up for each of the European shows for a total of $20. The money goes to The Teenage Cancer Trust (Double O), a charity that Pete has been supporting.

All those years ago, in up state New York, Townshend looked out on the audience at Woodstock. As the sun came up, while The Who were playing, he saw thousands of faces.most of them stoned out of their mind. He thought that a rather sad comment on "our generation". At that moment, he envisioned a future where people dont actively live their lives. They passively stay at home, and live by plugging into a network that feed them food, and life experiences. Sorry Al Gore, but this may have been one of the first glimpses of what would in fact become the internet, and perhaps the actual future!!! And, well, here we are!!

Check this out at;

Apparently, once you purchase a "ticket" to recieve the web cast from any show, you will have a 24 hour period in which you can view the web cast. You will not be able to download it, just view it.

Pete continues to push the envelope!

apparently, it's the last and final guitar he ever smashed, and it occured years ago. He "outgrew" the smashing thing eon's ago. It meant something in a certain time and place....but not here and now.

Guys

Just been to see the Who at Leeds and i can only say get webcasts if you cant go to any dates, they were excellent, Daltrey's voice not what it used to be (he is 63 now) but the show with pete is still explosive and brilliant. An excellent gig by some old masters, no smashing guitars either "A" yes that one is old hat even to Pete.

But it was really good, dont know if I like the new mini album they are releasing (6tracks) but it was ok. If you can, see them !!!!!

Love life, some twists and turns are more painful than others, but love life.....

I tend to agree with John Hiatt:

Well he threw one down form the top of the stairs

Beautiful women were standing everywhere

They all got wet when he smashed that thing

But off in the dark you could hear somebody sing

[Chorus:]

Oh it breaks my heart to see those stars

Smashing a perfectly good guitar

I don't know who they think they are

Smashing a perfectly good guitar

It started back in 1963

His momma wouldn't buy him

That new red harmony

He settled for a sunburt with a crack

But he's still trying to break his momma's back

[Chorus]

He loved that guitar just like a girlfriend

But ever good thing comes to an end

Now he just sits in his room all day

Whistling every note he used to play

There ought to be a law with no bail

Smash a guitar and you go to jail

With no chance for early parole

You don't get out till you get some soul

[Chorus]

Late at night the end of the road

He wished he still had the old guitar to hold

He'd rock it like a baby in his arms

Never let it come ot any harm

Hey Big G,

A buddy of mine who lives near London (originally from Belfast) was at the Leeds show as well. He told me that the venue at Leeds is actually a cafeteria that held about 2000 people. That blew me away! After wearing out several copies of Live at Leeds over the years, my minds eye had the place being a large stadium! Pete still has the fire in his belly, THANK GOD!!

Pete hasn't smashed an axe in many many years. The one they are auctioning off is a guitar he smashed on the occasion of The Who's first show in Japan. He has not smashed one since, and has publicly said he never again will "disassemble" a guitar on stage. Also, the proceeds of this raffle will go to charity. Check this all out at the web site I listed above.

I just viewed the first of the Who webcasts. It had a brief diatribe of Pete sermonizing (personally, I'd listen to him all day...), and then had three songs...The Kids Are Alright, Behind Blue Eyes, and an new one that will be on their new album. I don't know how a man of 60+ years stays that powerfully passionate and pissed off for that long a time. But, I'm hoping I can come close............

The video and audio quality were very good. You can go to full screen, and it does not decay the quality.

The Who....meaning Pete T, is offering this, and sending all of the money recieved to charity!! Pete blazing new trails AGAIN.

check it out.....http://thewholive.tv/frontdoor/

I hope this is not percieved as spam...I really think that this is a ground breaking event....hopefully we'll see more bands doing webcasts in the future.

MDRS yes its part of the universty, really small venue probably not even 2000 people, they have done 2 Leeds shows, unfortuantely I couldnt get to the Uni venue so I saw them play the O2 festival, I would have happily traded though. But still really good.

Current offering at The Who webcast is what I believe is the entire show (all 144 minutes of it) they did this past Sunday, from Hyde Park.

It is quite excellent....
