I was there all 3 days too. It was a shame they left out Jeff Beck, but it was also a shame they left out Andy Timmons, OHM w/Chris Poland, Johnny A, Pete Huttlinger (the national fingerpicking champion), and others. I heard they may do the fest again, but know of no details.

Maybe you'll know this, is there going to be another festival soon (in the next few years)? A friend of mine told me they were planning for 2007, but I haven't heard anything.

??

I haven't heard anything. If they do and the lineup is as good as the the first it is absolute must for any guitar player. It was so amazing I can't find words to describe it. Jeff Beck and Santana both got cut short due to an extended jam of BB King, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Vaughn, John Mayer and probably someone I'm forgetting. BB said something like that moment was the highlight of his career and I was like wow I'm experiencing something historic here.

HFX, do you fly fixed wing aircraft too? LPCustom and I both fly too but now choppers! What aircraft are you flying allot of?
I've flown planes, but I've been flying helicopters commercially since I was 18, broke 1000 hours before I hit 20, and it's been over twenty now. I flew 8 years in the Canadian bush, living in bushcamps, fighting fires, etc. then I flew EMS for a decade, downtown Toronto and in the North, and I've been flying offshore oil support for the past 6 years, out of Halifax but in the Middle East as well. I was actually in Northern Iran when September 11th unfolded! My avatar is a "sitting out the fog offshore day".

In the office:

And it's old, but it's BIG...30 seats, but we had to take a bunch out to make room for spare fuel tanks as we go 200 miles out into the North Atlantic,

Top Secret: Eric Clapton and his band performing "Layla" Insert DVD Disc Two and go the Extras menu. Scrolling up, down, and around Interviews, Guitar Solos, and Main, the selection blue cursor will eventually disappear. When it does, hit Enter and rock on!

Thanks for the tip. I thought you were joking, but I tried it anyway and it worked.

I just watched that version of Layla and then watched Vai's tune. What an amazing contrast in styles. I don't own any Vai records, but every time I see that video I sit there with my mouth open thinking : F**k me, that's unbelievable.

Then I realize that it lasts about till the end of the song and I'm done. But I could listen to Clapton all day.

Still wish I could play like Vai though. Ain't that a funny thing  Not that I can play like Clapton, other than coppin' his licks :D

technically, Vai is as good as anyone I've ever seen touch a guitar. I've seen him several times, and often you don't believe your eyes! He's very creative, and a great showman. And, he's a bee keeper!!! Melodically, he loses my interest after a while.....But, he is incredible. In that style, I prefer Joe Satriani, who apparently didn't get the invite to Crossroads????

did anyone else really, really dig seeing Carlos Santana and Clapton playing together?? Check out how happy Carlos is playing with EC...he's just smiliing away. Also, I thought Carlos' comments during his interview on the DVD, that to this day most good guitarists must "go through" Clapton was very generous, and very true.

I saw Vai when he was with David Lee Roth, (skyscraper tour). He was unbelievable. I also liked his band Alcatraz. A couple of months ago West L.A. Music had Joe Satriani play a free concert at this very small amphitheater across the street from their store (maybe 300 people). He played about 8 songs (70 minutes maybe). Afterwards he went inside and signed something for EVERYONE who waited in line. Above and beyond the call of duty. They said he would stay for an hour afterwards but he ended staying nearly three.

Besides Clapton's cuts I really like Steve Cropper and James Taylor with Joe Walsh. As well as JJ.Cale that was a real treat .I have been a fan of his form since the late 60's ,talk about a layed back performance!Proves that less is more.Too Cool!!

Oh, yea, and why in the name of rock and roll, did they leave Jeff Beck off of the DVD? That ain't right......

Don

Well hay, why would they need Vince or Jeff when they had a firecracker like Jimmie Vaughn?

Hey Duro...the first time I saw Vai was on the Skyscraper tour....I thought the structure provided by the songs that DL Roth and company wrote for those couple of albums really brought out a type of playing on Vai's part that I really dug. On his own, he gets a tad spacey for me.

Ellwood.....LMAO!!!! Yea, I keep playing the Jimmy Vaughn scenes on that DVD over and over again. But somehow I just can't play like him!! :D Didnt he have a brother that could play pretty well??

I'll try again....I thought that Vince Gill was the hottest guitarist on that DVD.

O.K., my flack jacket is on. Take your best shot folks.... :D

He sure did and that's exactly why he was there in the first place! watch and see the flames start.. the one's saying thatSteve said Jimmy was the better player of the two!And of the Vince thing... I agree with ya there, Vince is just an amazing player he was one of the top three players there for sure.

Vince Gill starts on that solo on the first song, and I keep wishing he'd just keep on playing! Talk about being on a roll. He is so unassuming, but is simply a killer talent...one of the best voices around, a closet axeman extraordinare, and wonderful song writer. I just love the guy. And, the bit of a beer belly hanging over those goofy shorts....well that just rounds him off perfectly!! I can't play, sing, nor write like him. But, at age 50....I'm starting to kind of look like him, and that must count for something!! Maybe there's hope for me yet!!!! (doubtful!!)

Speaking of Vince Gill...In that country genre, has anyone heard Brad Paisley play? While country is not quite my cup of tea, this guy has impressed me since I first heard him a few years ago.
